Hidden Gems: Meet Andrew Impastato of Next Basket Wins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Impastato.

Hi Andrew, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I started Next Basket Wins while I was a college basketball assistant coach to subsidize the low salary that coaching entailed. It was an opportunity for me to use my passion for the game of basketball to help youth get better at their skills as well as engage adults on the court in competitive and recreational play. As a former college basketball player, I always played in adult basketball leagues after graduation to keep that competitive spirit and love for the game going. When it was time for me to run my own adult leagues for my company, I had a unique experience of what I liked and enjoyed about the leagues I played in as well as what I wanted to create as solutions to problems that I also experienced in those leagues. I think it has been that mindset that has made our adult leagues around the country so enjoyable and then overall positive experience for all our adult players. We started the adult league eight years ago in Hoboken, New Jersey, with six teams and have seen that flourished to 85 teams. In addition to Hoboken, we now have leagues in five different states with over 150 to 200 teams playing any given season across the East Coast. Our league in the Durham Raleigh, North Carolina area just form this past year and is run by a family member who lives in the area… We expect it to grow and expand as the community and area is a perfect fit for vibrant young professional adults. 

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It is always a hassle securing and finding gym time to host our events in all the different areas. We have to rely on building relationships with the gatekeepers and aggressively searching for any and all facilities. Another obstacle is trying to find responsible and passionate coaches and staff to push our shared vision and culture. One way around this was employing former players in our program that already had a built-in equity and understanding of what we do and why, which was monumental in our growth. 

As you know, we’re big fans of Next Basket Wins. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
We run adult basketball leagues youth basketball camps and coach youth travel basketball teams. Our youth programming is only in New Jersey. Our adult basketball leagues are in and around NJ, Nashville, TN, Durham, NC, Philadelphia, PA, and Orlando, FL. 

All our adult basketball leagues have unique rules designed to enhance court play and spearhead organized competitive flow. We keep and rank player stats for all our games and post player highlights on our social media outlets for all to enjoy.
