Hidden Gems: Meet Angela Bobbitt of GlamBerries by Angela

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Bobbitt.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
GlamBerries by Angela was started by luck in 2017. The Raleigh-Durham area was under a winter storm watch, and my family was all hunkered down. My husband had a “sweet tooth,” and I being too “chicken” to drive out to the store, found a pack of strawberries in the fridge and a bunch of chocolate chips. I melted the chocolate like I had seen on tv and began dipping the berries. I served up my first little plate of the “ugliest” chocolate-covered strawberries and the rest, as they say, was history! He and I posted pictures of ourselves eating the dipped berries on Facebook and friends began commenting. After a few requests for chocolate-covered berries, I sold my first order on Valentine’s Day, and I’ve been dipping since then!

My business initially focused solely on chocolate-covered strawberries, specifically “blinged out,” sparkly ones. “The blingier, the better” is my motto! Over the years, I gradually added to my menu, continued studying new techniques and methods, and became more willing to venture beyond my comfort zone. (Success isn’t always “comfortable, right?) Doing so has enabled my creativity to flourish, along with a significant increase in my customer base. In addition to chocolate-covered strawberries, Glamberries by Angela now offers strawberry and floral gift arrangements, designer caramel and chocolate apples, cake pops, cakescicles, crisp rice treats, pretzels, cake truffles, the increasingly popular custom graphic Oreos, and our newest showstopper, “Truffle Cakes,” which are basically tiered cake bites, similar to a wedding cake!

I enjoy creating unique chocolate-covered confections. While I’ll do “basic” if requested, I typically opt for “over-the-top” chocolate decadence. I love that GlamBerries’ customers experience the indulgence of my custom-made luxurious treats and desserts – they deserve it! GlamBerries by Angela’s treats are made with love, and I genuinely enjoy what I do. My continued goal is to spread this love in my little way, one delectable chocolate treat at a time!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Cultivating my business has been a challenging road. Since starting in 2017, I have strayed away from my business a few times, as I had gotten distracted with other ventures. These “ventures” were often more like “side hustles” to generate extra income for my family. My focus was definitely on the extra money. Each of those times, the ventures did not hold my attention or yield the quick money I expected; ultimately, my heart was not in them. Each time, I returned to where I was happiest, with my chocolate. One of the positives of the pandemic and being at home for an extended time was that I renewed my focus on those things that brought me ‘joy.’ I realized that one of those things was working with my hands, “playing” with chocolate, and creating something that brought others joy. Once I refocused on my business and got serious, things began falling into place, and my creativity flourished like never before!

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about GlamBerries by Angela?
We’re all about indulgence! As your local “Chocolate Fairy,” I specialize in uniquely handcrafted chocolate-dipped confections. My treats are not mass-produced but are customized just for you! I am proudest of the personal attention I devote to each order. Whether designing a personalized graphic image printed in edible ink for Oreos or painstakingly creating fondant embellishments for your custom theme, each item is made with love. I desire that my brand, GlamBerries by Angela, embodies “GLAMorous” treats and desserts.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Most important to my success are not giving up and consistency. While my previous “distractions” were easier and less time-consuming than hand-making treats and desserts, the result is much more rewarding. It has ended up being more lucrative. Who would have guessed?
