Hidden Gems: Meet Brett Horiuchi of Small Town Screenprinting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brett Horiuchi.

Hi Brett, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I have been in the graphic and graphic design business for some time and had a very established friend in the screen printing business. We talked for some time about my wife Courtney and me jumping into screen printing, and after a lot of thought and processing, we started the journey. We traveled locally, looking at some available equipment and another shop’s setups, and finalized our very own. Once we started, it was just word of mouth and social media that got us the start in the business.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a smooth road?
With the connection between the vinyl graphics world and screen printing, we thought the business would thrive with just our customer connections alone. Still, soon after we started Small Town Screenprinting, Covid-19 hit the world since we invested in our property at our home as our base of operations. Many of the covid-19 restraints didn’t impact us as hard as the traditional shops. Growing pains and perfecting the process have also made us adapt and learn the quirky things that come with running a screen printing shop. Luckily our friends in the business and online groups are always open and willing to help give support when things come up that we truly need a more experienced mind to overcome.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Small Town Screenprinting?
Small Town Screenprinting is exactly that we are based out of Hillsborough, N.C. My wife, Courtney, and I make the production wheel turn. We provide fully custom logo designs for our customers. Screen printing can encompass many products ranging from t-shirts to hooded sweatshirts, koozies, and tote bags—the options as really wide-ranging. We provide our customer’s embroidery as a partnering apparel option for different applications. What sets us apart from many shops is that we don’t have a set minimum for garment pieces, and we know how special the end product is for our customers. From a simple birthday t-shirt for a 4-year-old or a 500-piece order for a medical company, we know that our customers will be happy and excited about their order, and that’s what makes us excited to come into our shop.

So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why.
We believe that the customer being happy with the end product is what means the most. We have learned over the few years we have been in business that being open and upfront with the customer about their expectations of the end product is what makes people feel reassured that they are going to love their order. Digital proofs and sometimes even samples allow the customer to feel for the project.
