Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana Threat.
Hi Briana, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my early twenties in graduate school studying to become a clinical mental health counselor. That’s where I thought my story would begin. Little did I know, I was about to take a major detour and follow my creative dreams instead. During my first year in my Master’s program, I began learning how to do hair. Always thinking business, hairstyling became my “side hustle” to help me earn money while I finished school. My clientele grew, and before I knew it, I was 6 months post-grad and decided to stick with hair “for the time being”. I then went in business with my father and opened salon suites in 2017. In 2019, I went to Paul Mitchell cosmetology school and became fully licensed, thus branching out into extensions, natural hair care, cutting, and color services. While all of this was happening, I was growing my YouTube channel and brand that I started in 2015. There, I was given the creative freedom to showcase different brand’s products in ways that also spoke to me as a person. In 2020, the last business baby of the bunch was born– The Love Letter Collection. The Love Letter Collection is my 17-product luxury haircare & extensions line that caters to natural hair types and is formulated with natural ingredients. Currently, I enjoy running my YouTube Channel which is now known as The Threat Life, working part-time in the salon, PS by Bri, running the salon suites Premier Suites, and last but not least growing my brand The Love Letter Collection. Moreover, I enjoy being a full-time mommy to my almost-two-year-old daughter and a wife to my awesome husband. All of these roles keep me super busy, and some days I wonder myself how I keep it all afloat, but I wouldn’t trade any of it for the world.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey has definitely not been one without bumps and hurdles. I received a lot of skepticism leaving a traditional path of school to corporate world and deciding to follow my heart and passion instead. I was constantly questioned as to why I would want to “waste my degree” and “just do hair” instead. The funny thing about visions, though, is that they’re given to YOU for a reason. You can see where you’re trying to go and what you’re trying to do, but even those who love you most won’t be able to see it until it’s done. I myself had no idea all that would be birthed from me following my heart. I also had to go through cosmetology school while I was pregnant. Those 10-hour school days were not easy while carrying, but I was determined to make it happen and ended up being the first of my class to finish my program a couple of months ahead of schedule. While starting my business during the pandemic, I was battling postpartum depression and anxiety, yet I pushed through keeping in mind the future that I wanted for myself, as well as the legacy I wanted to leave for my daughter. We always see speed bumps as those agitating things that are in the way, and don’t get me wrong– they most certainly are. However, they also force us to slow down, get our hands dirty in the process, and look back in way more admiration of all that we’re able to accomplish in spite of. If it were easy, EVERYONE would do it!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Love Letter Collection?
The Love Letter Collection is a 17-product hair care line that is formulated with natural ingredients. The name was conceptualized from the notion that the ingredients are literally a love letter written especially for each customer’s hair. When you use my product line, it feels like love being infused into your hair! (Sounds mushy, but once you experience it…you’ll understand what I mean! We offer a wide range of products that treat all hair types and textures. We also offer top-grade hair extensions, as well as wig-making and coloring services. We constantly remind our customers that they deserve LUXURY and that includes the way in which they care for their hair. I’m most proud of how much my brand has grown in just one year with no fancy backing or promotion…fully homegrown. If you’re just now experiencing who and what the Love Letter Collection is, the hair care product game just changed for you.
What matters most to you?
Family and legacy matter the most to me. Brands, wealth, and notoriety are all nice and dandy, but what does it all really mean without your people to share it with? My family means to world to me personally, and they come first. They are my why and the reason why I work so hard. Legacy matters immensely to me because it is what will be left behind when I’m long gone from this world. Legacy is bigger than money. It’s your name and everything it stands for. It’s what people think of and FEEL when they see your family’s name. It’s the opportunities left behind for your children and their children’s children. Legacy is huge for me and is the second driving force in my dedication to building my empire.
