Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Humphrey.
Hi Brittney , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It all started with a love for animals and a dream to create something magical for families. What began as a farm, Humphrey Honey Bunny Farm, slowly grew into Humphreys Enchanted Emporium, a traveling petting zoo and whimsical experience that brings joy wherever we go.
At first, it was just me, my husband Steven, and a handful of animals who are very much our family. Over time, our herd grew, along with our vision. We didn’t just want to offer people a chance to meet animals; we wanted to create moments of wonder and connection. That’s how the idea of a “traveling realm or the online version The Hollow” was born, a place where all the animals have a name, a story, and a touch of magic.
We’ve faced plenty of challenges along the way, long drives, bad weather, broken canopies, and sleepless nights, but every smile we see makes it worth it. Today, our team (my husband Steven, my brother-in-law Mike, and myself) travel across North Carolina and parts of South Carolina bringing the the wonder of the farm to festivals, schools, federal bases, and communities.
What keeps us going is simple: kindness, connection, and the joy of watching someone’s eyes light up when they meet one of our animals, also seeing our animals enjoy that same connection. We’re not just running a petting zoo, we’re building something that reminds people that magic still exists in the everyday.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road, but I think that’s what makes our story meaningful. We’ve had our share of setbacks, from unexpected weather ruining events, to broken equipment, long nights, and even moments where we wondered how we’d keep going. One winter event in downtown Raleigh stands out, our canopy broke, our truck went missing, it was freezing, and my phone completely crashed and died due to it being so cold, but even in the middle of that chaos, people we didn’t know stepped in to help. That experience reminded me that kindness still exists in the world, and that’s something we carry with us to every event.
There have also been emotional challenges. When you work with animals you love like family, every loss hits hard. We’ve had to say goodbye to our beloved goats Giovanni and Scarlett and each one leaves a sorrow in our heart, but their magic and stories still live in the petting zoo.
Financially, too, it’s been tough at times, building a business like this from the ground up takes everything you have, emotionally and physically, but through it all, we’ve learned resilience. Every challenge has taught us something new about grace, gratitude, and perseverance.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Humphreys Enchanted Emporium is where the ordinary meets the enchantment of a traveling realm of wonder disguised as a petting zoo. We’re known for creating experiences that feel straight out of a storybook, where animals are not exhibits they’re living beings in a story that you are a part of.
You might meet Angel the Invisible Chicken, whose feathers vanish unless someone chooses to believe in magic again, or Whimsey the Wheel, forever cursed by his greed of tokens, now made to give prizes to every guest who offers a token. Even our mushroom-shaped cotton candy feels magical.
But beneath the whimsy is deep care and professionalism. Every animal in our traveling zoo is family, nurtured with love, routine vet care, and strict biosecurity practices to keep them healthy and comfortable. Their calm presence at events isn’t trained, it’s trust, built through years of kindness and consistency.
We bring this magic to festivals, schools, Federal bases, and private events across North Carolina and parts of South Carolina blending imagination with authenticity. What sets us apart isn’t just the theme, it’s the heart. We believe no child should walk away empty handed, no guest should feel unseen, and no moment should pass without a spark of wonder.
At its core, our brand is about connection, between people, animals, and imagination. We don’t just bring animals to the crowd; we bring stories, laughter, and reminders that kindness is still the greatest kind of magic there is.
What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is sharing the wonder, watching adults turn back into children, even if just for a moment. When they forget about the world for a while and let themselves laugh, smile, or pet a goat with pure delight, that’s when the magic happens.
It’s in those moments that you can feel the walls come down and something soft and good return, a reminder that joy doesn’t have an age limit. Whether it’s a child meeting a bunny for the first time or a grown up giggling at Angel the Invisible Chicken, that shared spark of wonder is what fills my heart.
