Hidden Gems: Meet Chelsea Jones of Chiseled By Chelsea Macro Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Jones.

Hi Chelsea, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?

Hi, I’m Chelsea! A mom to a social six-year-old, a tenacious three-year-old, and an observant one-year-old. A wife to a supportive stud muffin. A faithful fitness follower. A nocturnal nutrition nerd. And a motivating, macro coach!

I grew up with very poor eating habits (hello chips & soda!) and not much physical activity. I played a few sports in school, but my nutrition was awful. I vividly remember hiding my vegetables under a mound of ketchup or in my napkin so I could finally be excused from the table.

During my junior year of high school, I decided I wanted to lose some weight and feel comfortable in my own skin. I started Weight Watchers and completely revamped my eating habits. The weight started falling off. I began going to the gym for the first time and over a few months, I had lost over 30 pounds. I felt great! I had a level of confidence that had never existed before.

Throughout college, I continued to work out, but my nutrition started slipping (cue freshman fifteen!) and I was always striving to get in better shape. Post-college, I really focused on healthy eating and frequent exercise, but I decided to go back to school for my Master’s degree. I was a young 20-something working in a restaurant while taking classes, which meant eating restaurant food ALL THE TIME.

I finally graduated and started teaching at a local high school. My love for fitness led me to a nearby gym where I became a part-time trainer. I taught group fitness classes and led 1:1 training sessions. I was working out more than ever, but I still had not achieved my ideal body composition.

In 2015, we had an adorable baby boy and by the end of the year, we moved to North Carolina. I found an amazing workout facility when my son was 9 months old. Burn Boot Camp was more than a gym, it was a fitness community filled with encouraging, like-minded women. I was hooked! I started working out in April and it was intense. Four months later, I was happy with my results, but I wondered what could happen if I really dialed in my nutrition.

I started following If It Fits Your Macros (IIFYM) and over the next 6 months I dropped 15 pounds and saw my body fat drop to 16%. I was amazed at the changes my body made when I provided it with the right formula of food! At 30 years old, I was in the best shape of my life! I have since been a big believer in and proponent of IIFYM. It also led me to pursue the Level 1 Nutrition Certification with Precision Nutrition to gain more knowledge.

I’m now a support trainer at Burn Boot Camp, as well as an online Macro Coach — here to help clients make the nutrition changes necessary to achieve their goals. My personal experience, nutrition knowledge, and passion for working with others helps my clients create the changes they’re after!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I have been VERY fortunate to have such a supportive community. Honestly, without them, I would never be where I am today. When I first decided to launch macro coaching services, I approached our head trainer at Burn Boot Camp with my ideas. He not only agreed that nutrition coaching would benefit so many of our members, but he fully supported me and encouraged me.

He graciously allowed me to share the launch of my business with our community. I remember feeling beyond nervous when I added a post to our member’s page. I held my breath as I asked for 5-10 women looking to dial in their nutrition in a small group setting with guidance and accountability. Honestly, I was terrified that no one would be interested. However, as soon as I shared the post, my phone started blowing up with notifications. I was in disbelief! Over 60 people were interested in participating!

That was 4.5 years ago and the support has continued. I have so many individuals that come to me based on the referral of a past or current client. A positive recommendation means the world to me!

The biggest struggles along the way have been establishing boundaries and a work/home-life balance.

When I first started, I felt compelled to respond to clients within minutes, no matter when they reached out — during dinner, at night, over the weekend, etc. I would always put what I was doing on pause to get back to them. It took me some time to realize that I need to set up some boundaries.

Today my rule of thumb is to get back to clients within 24 hours. I [recently] also committed to staying out of my inbox on Saturdays. I’ve reserved that day for family time. As a business owner, it’s really hard not to think about all of the to-dos on your list. I’m continually working to be more intentional with my allocated work time so I can be present during the time with my family.

We recently took the kids to Disney and I’m so thankful for the boundaries I set in place that allowed me to be fully present with my people. It was such a magical experience!

We’ve been impressed with Chiseled By Chelsea Macro Coaching, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in macro counting, which is a focused, flexible eating strategy. Most clients come to me with the goal of losing weight or body fat. Macro counting allows clients to enjoy their favorite foods in moderation while focusing on overall balance. My favorite mantra is “You can eat anything, but not everything.”

I offer both group and individual coaching to provide knowledge, guidance, and accountability. All of my services are completely virtual, which made coaching through the pandemic seamless. My goal is to inspire, encourage and empower women to be the best version of themselves by focusing on macros, mindset, and motivation.

The relationships I build with my clients sets me apart from others. I really get to know them on a deeper level. Some women have worked with me for months or even years, allowing me to truly become a part of their journey. I’m most proud of the experience I provide and my proven track record for getting clients results. Macro counting works when followed consistently.

It can dramatically improve your relationship with food and your overall mindset when it comes to nutrition! I never would have imagined that this little idea I had over 4 years ago would take off and be so well received. It’s been such a dream to get to my know my clients, share in their victories, and cheer them on as they crush their goals!

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I think social media has a lot of networking options out there. I have connected with other macro coaches and entrepreneurs in general via Instagram and Facebook. There are many groups out there if you’re looking to network, collab or gain insight.

Simply search topics related to your industry on social media and you’re bound to find some options.
