Hidden Gems: Meet Crystal Baldwin of Harmony Hair Spa & Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Crystal Baldwin.

Crystal, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My career path started off at ECU to become a high school math teacher but I’ve always had a passion for hair. So in between classes on campus in my dorm, I would accept appointments. Hair became a stress reliever and an income stream. After I became pregnant with my daughter at the end of my junior year I decided to do hair full time to support us. I became a licensed natural hair care specialist and started working in a salon under a mentor. 2 years later, I opened my salon Harmony Hair Spa & Co.

I wanted my salon to be a salon to rejuvenate women’s natural hair and follicles. As I continued to grow my business I was able to go back to ECU and graduate with my degree. Education fueled more of my interest in learning about hair follicles and why women were losing their hair. I wanted to be the solution to the hair loss epidemic. In 2020 I became a certified AMCA hair loss practitioner. In 2022 I became a holistic Trichologist. These certifications allowed me to offer my clients medical treatments that grew their hair back. Now I offer services that give solutions to hair loss and different scalp ailments.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of the obstacles along the way would be funding the dreams that I really wanted to do. Sometimes I would get big ideas at night and I would wonder how this was going to be possible.

Prayer, patience, timing, and planning were always key to my success. If you write the vision, have faith and plan for it. God will supply the resources for anything that’s within the will of your life.

We’ve been impressed with Harmony Hair Spa & Company, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I love that my business offer consultations. I build personal regimens for every client based on their health background, the current state of their hair, and the direction they want their hair to grow. Some of the hair loss treatments we offer but aren’t limited to Blue Light Therapy, Mesotherapy, and Laser Treatment.

What sets me apart from others is that my salon doesn’t only address the hair but we address hair care needs from a state of wellness. We incorporate different diet changes that will help our client achieve their hair goals. We educate our clients on how their wellness and nutrient deficiency are causing their hair to not be its best.

I’m proud that I’ve created a brand that cares about our clients from the inside out.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory would be forcing my brothers to play school with me. I’m an educator at heart.
