Hidden Gems: Meet Dana Craft of Sinful Glow NC Airbrush Tanning

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Craft. 

Dana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Like so many women, my story began with the corporate grind. I spent decades there, working in a rigorous corporate atmosphere. Eventually, I decided to take some time for soul searching. I wanted to find the thing that had made my career so enjoyable and meaningful.

The answer came quickly: empowering and supporting women. This was the true, underlying constant that I had loved most about each job I’d held to-date. The challenge became how to convert this passion into a career change.

You should know, I’m a Florida girl. Growing up in the Sunshine State gave me an affinity for beautiful, sun-kissed skin – along with an understanding of the dangers of UV rays. Sunless tanning was a natural part of my routine, and something I loved. Once the realization hit me, combining the two was a no-brainer, and Sinful Glow NC was born! Sinful Glow NC is an airbrush tanning studio set against a backdrop of genuine acceptance. It’s truly a No Judgement Zone.

Things evolved from there. I realized that while stripped down to their undergarments, or in some cases naked, women let down their emotional guards as well. They began to share with me in ways that I never thought possible. Listening to the stories that my incredible female clientele would share, I felt compelled to do more. I collaborated with a local photography and makeup team, and began featuring their stories – all in an attempt to amplify the voices of women in our community.

More women began tuning in, and sharing with me. This prompted me to create U-WIN, the Unapologetic Women of North Carolina. UWIN is a support group and community for all women on a journey to live an unapologetic life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As a female entrepreneur the days are emotional and full of ups and downs, sometimes all in the same day. The challenges in my industry are usually based in unpredictability. Would people want a Sinful Glow? Would they come in more than once? Would I have a reliable income? Luckily, the answer has been yes, and I’ve been very well-received and embraced by my community.

I stay very close to my “why,” to my support system, and to the values and culture of women empowerment that Sinful Glow was built on. My husband, my son and my mother are my biggest cheerleaders.  I meet some of the most amazing women daily who remind me why I have the passion that I do. When I see a woman light up with confidence after they see their gorgeous tan and hear their stories of what Sinful Glow means to them, it makes the struggles worth it!
