Hidden Gems: Meet Elias Kirkman of NidasRecordingStudio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elias Kirkman.

Hi Elias, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Elias
Founder and owner of Nidas Recording Studio in Burlington NC, this is the story of how I started. I always had a love for music but didn’t ever consider audio engineering or making music till I was a junior in high school. My first time making music was when little brother had a cheap Amazon microphone kit and I saw it in his room and started messing around and recording, I was opened to a new side of music I never considered. I took his equipment to my room and set up a make shift studio desk and started recording on a video editing app. Pretty soon I had packed up my all my personal belongings and traded my bed for a couch with blankets hung up to make a make shift vocal booth. And now I wasn’t just recording myself, my friends and family had started recording with me regularly. I loved every aspect of making music to the point I would work all day and make music all night. Throughout the rest of high school I turned my bedroom into a fully functional studio complete with a real vocal booth. I started landscaping fresh out of high school and was working long hours and had less time and energy for the studio, finally after enough cold mornings and long days I quit and decided to apply for for school for studio engineering, I figured out the cost and made it work. By now I had made a small name for myself in my city and was now recording more and more people everyday, all I could think about was getting my own space where I could fully operate so throughout school I saved my money and learned my craft,I graduated suma cum laude in Texas and opened my own commercial studio in Burlington, we’ve been open almost 8 months now and business is on a steady incline and I’m grateful everyday things have fallen in place for me to get where I am, I appreciate every artist who has taken a chance with me and can’t wait to see where things go!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely has been up and down. It’s gets hard to balance life and work sometimes when putting so much time into my business, and money is always stressful getting started. Also it took so long to find a spot that fit my business needs I thought it would never happen and lost a lot of money in the process

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I run Nidas Recording studio by myself for the most part. I specialize in studio engineering I do a lot of in studio work with occasional remote mix and masters for songs. People book with me because I create real friendships with all my artist and make them feel comfortable to be themselves and make there best work. I turned the front lobby of my studio into a store where I showcase and sell local clothing brand’s merchandise to help them grow get more exposer. I base by business around helping people out the best I can by helping people network and giving them the resources they wouldn’t have otherwise to catch exposure, also have a new podcast set that’s is going to be available soon for booking.
