Hidden Gems: Meet Elisia’ Parker of Naturally Nourished Tutoring Service

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisia’ Parker

Hi Elisia’, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’d be dishonest if I wasn’t truthful
about the mere fact that I have always known that teaching is my gift. I walk willingly in the path God has created for me and in turn serve others to better themselves and the world through educating! My father was and will always be my forever professor. My father was driven and fascinated by knowledge as am I and naturally my passion to teach was introduced at an early age! I literally love what I do and my dream is indeed my reality!

I am a North Carolina certified Middle Grades Teacher who has taught in both Granville County School Systems as well as Durham County School systems. I am a master at my craft of building relationships with students and nourishing them in the way that is conducive to their learning styles and lifestyle! My first job educationally assisting youth began my junior year of high school and I’ve been educating in some capacity ever since.

Naturally Nourished Tutoring began in 2019 when the demand for additional assistance was requested from parents of students I was instructing in the Public School System. l immediately jumped at the opportunity considering teachers salaries are less than suitable. During the Pandemic my clientele for tutoring increased. I could no longer meet my scholars at the public library nor could I travel to their homes. The demand for my services were at an all time high with students being fully remote and parents still working and not having the luxury of gifting their children the time and attention that they needed now that they were not attending school in person. I decided to turn a room in my home into a tutoring room and 2 grew to 10 and 10 to 53 before I knew it! In order to meet the demand of the families and scholars that needed me I decided after 3 years of traveling for tutoring that I needed a place to call our own that could house my growing roster of 53! We have been successfully operating for six years now. We’ve had three office locations, a staff of 5 including my mother, summer camps and three graduating classes from our private school and of course still meeting with lots of local scholars weekly for tutoring!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing worth having comes easy, right? We’ve experienced a handful of challenges. One of the most prevalent in our starting years was retention of families who were not familiar with such services. I’ve worked to better educate my community of parents who are striving to service their scholars successfully that results and educational growth takes time and consistency as well as dedication. It truly takes the whole village! Also – legal things! Taxes, payroll, grant resources for parents, did I say taxes?!
