Hidden Gems: Meet Elizabeth Rogers of Cairn Travels

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Rogers.

Elizabeth, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My Dad was a high school history teacher and one of the perks was being able to take students to Europe in the summer. Mom, my sister, and I were able to tag along on some of the adventures. In 1987, I was fortunate enough to visit Russia on one of the student trips.

As a family, we took many vacations to US National Parks, Civil War National Parks, and the beach to count a few. My parents instilled a love of travel which made me yearn to learn more about the world I had yet to see. I developed a sense of independence which prompted me to drive to Breckenridge Colorado just after graduation and then on to Los Angeles to “become famous” with my boyfriend, Darryl, who I met the first day at Virginia Tech.

After a few years, I knew that as much as I loved the West Coast, I wanted to be closer to my family. Darryl and I got married and started a life in Wilmington, NC. Long story short, we traveled as much as possible with our three boys when they were young. Lots of camping, lots of car fights, but an awful lot of fun and incredible memories.

I owned Cairn Advertising Agency and after twelve successful years in advertising, I decided to switch careers and do what I love most…. TRAVEL. I design destination itineraries to suit a wide array of people. I also lead 2-3 group trips every year.

I spent countless hours creating a website, designing vacation itineraries, and editing travel photographs (I love photography) in order to open Cairn Travels in 2019. The business started out strong until COVID-19 introduced itself to the world. Needless to say, business was rather slow in 2020, but man, I learned so much! I was able to use the downtime to create relationships and partnerships around the world.

Today, business is steady and I expect the travel industry to gain steam in the next few months!

What sets Cairn Travels apart is my ability to offer an authentic travel experience. A tremendous amount of research is exerted into every itinerary designed.

In my personal life, I enjoy entertaining people in my home by creating a cozy and welcoming environment. I do my best to make sure the trips I design have that same warmth and inviting feel I strive to create for others. It’s important that every client feels comfortable and confident before their departure, knowing that all the details of vacation have been covered.
