Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Torres-Perryman.
Hi Gina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Covid made me do it! Being stuck at home, unable to connect with people so frequently, was crushing my spirit. I am energized by connection with others. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not shy. Everyone is a friend.
I was especially missing meeting in person with the international students I worked with at the local community college.
To fill my time, I started buying thrifted items and Squishmallows to resell online. Sure, I made a few bucks, but this didn’t fulfill my need for connecting with people. My son had started live-streaming online, and he suggested I try it. So… I did.
I had a blast! I live-streamed gaming, baking, chatting, and decorating for the holidays. I made friends from all over the world.
Around the same time, I attended an online workshop led by a dynamic and engaging speaker. I felt challenged and motivated working through the personal mission statement he had us create. I decided on the change I was going to make.
I built on my work as an international advisor and success coach and transitioned into professional life coaching.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t always want to admit the challenges and obstacles. I have for almost all of my life dealt with anxiety. In my younger and adolescent years, I managed the best I could. After my first child was born, my anxiety got so bad that I got very scared and reached out for help.
Fast forward 14 years later when my oldest son was hospitalized for severe depression and thoughts of suicide. He had just started 9th grade. His weekend hospital stay turned into a month-long stay. His painful journey continued when he returned home. As his mother, this was the hardest experience of my life. That was 5 years ago. Samuel is now 20 years old, happy, enjoying life, and an encouragement to others.
Through the challenges of mental health that I’ve experienced during my life, I have learned the importance of support networks and really just taking one day at a time. Sometimes, that really is all you can do.
Dealing with my own anxiety for so long and living through my son’s mental health challenges with him has just grown my desire to see others thrive.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a Life Coach. I coach people who want to make deliberate, exciting, lasting changes in either their personal or professional lives. They are tired of feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unfulfilled.
In our sessions, my clients are offered a safe space to think. To process. To talk. And be listened to. Without hurry or expectation. While I do not generally give advice, I do ask questions that will encourage the client to dive deeper in order to get clarity about what it is they really want.
Through the coaching process, they will discover more about what motivates them and what has held them back in the past. They’ll get the courage to make changes that they have either been too scared to try or have felt defeated by in the past. They begin to see momentum in our first few sessions, and it just builds from there.
I work with clients in areas of self-discovery, clarifying life purpose, stress/time management, creating healthy habits, building self-confidence, enhancing work/school performance, achieving personal or professional goals, and more.
I offer one-on-one coaching (in person or online), group coaching, and workshops on Life Design/Life Purpose, Motivation, Goal Setting, etc. I also offer resources for clients as they move through the coaching process.
What matters most to you? Why?
I want people to feel accepted as they are. We all struggle because we’re human, and it’s ok. I understand the importance of incorporating self-compassion into my daily life, and I encourage my clients to engage in that practice as well.
Through my work, I strive to help others be fulfilled in creating their most genuine, creative, and passionate life.
