Hidden Gems: Meet Glynis Hall of Let’s eat soul food

Today we’d like to introduce you to Glynis Hall.

Hi Glynis, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m one of thirteen children, so I grew up understanding hard work, sacrifice, and the importance of family. Cooking wasn’t something I always dreamed of doing, and I wouldn’t say it was a lifelong passion of mine. But one day, I found myself in the kitchen with a simple prayer — I asked the Holy Spirit to guide my hands.

From that moment on, everything began to unfold. What started as obedience and faith turned into something much bigger than me. I realized that food wasn’t just about cooking — it was about serving people, bringing comfort, and creating a place where the community could gather and feel at home.

Over time, with consistency, faith, and a lot of long days, that small step in the kitchen turned into the restaurant we have today. My journey wasn’t planned — it was guided. And I’m grateful that what started as a prayer became a purpose.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not smooth at all, I’ve don’t time in prison for being caught in in the streets trying to take care of my family. Which caused me to lose time with my children parents. I’ve loss family & friends, struggled but have always had the support of my family

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Let’s eat soul food ?
We’re known for authentic Southern comfort food — and proudly recognized as the Home of the Honey Honey Chicken Wings. Our food is flavorful, consistent, and rooted in tradition.

We are a family-based business at our core. The majority of our team is family, with my daughter serving as Regional Manager overseeing both locations, and my oldest son managing our Fayetteville location, where he also sells his one-of-a-kind, famous Fabian Flavors Pudding.

We’re located in the heart of the city and are proud to serve and support our community. We also employ students from NCCU, giving young people opportunities to gain work experience and grow.

At the end of the day, we’re more than a restaurant — we’re family, community, and legacy on a plate

What makes you happy?
My family, and helping people. I was born into a large family so family and faith is the foundation on who I am and what my restaurant stands on
