Hidden Gems: Meet Jae B. of Alfa Jae Salon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jae B..

Hi Jae, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
My name is Jae. I am the owner of Alfa Jae Salon in Cary, NC. I always felt there wasn’t an exact place for what I did in the hair community while working for someone else, So I decided to work for myself. I started in a chain salon that valued quantity over quality, & that didn’t work for me. So I created the creative space I needed to thrive & I haven’t looked back once. I started in a single suite, moved to a double, & now I have a 3 chair salon. I specialize in fashion colors, Blonding, & coloring shaved designs. & now, I have been recognized by my favorite hair color brand & get to be a part of their team.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Living in a smaller southern town, it was often hard to get the chance to prove myself to clients who didn’t “look like me.” I used not to have my picture on my booking site because people wouldn’t book with me for color services because they would see my face & assume I only did weave & braids.

We’ve been impressed with Alfa Jae Salon, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Alfa Jae Salon has been around for 5 years & is growing so much every day. I’m known for my vibrant fashion colors & edgy style. Many of my clients are pierced and tatted just like me, but I also have clients who are the opposite. I take time with my clients to safely get them to their desired goals. Everybody is welcome.

What was you like growing up?
I grew up in Little 5 Points in Atlanta. I was surrounded by artists, creatives, tattooers, piercers, etc. I am a product of that environment. I was so outgoing and often got in trouble for talking too much. As a kid, I’d say who has led me to this career.
