Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Elk.
Hi Jamie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After more than eight years working in the recovery and mental health support field, I developed a deep passion for helping people rediscover confidence, resilience, and a sense of self-worth. That work shaped my heart for service and solidified my belief that true transformation happens when people feel seen, supported, and empowered. After the pandemic, I felt called to expand how I served others, which led me back to school to pursue my esthetics license and create a career that blends healing, skincare, and wellness.
Leaving the security of a salaried position to become a full-time entrepreneur was one of the most faith-driven decisions of my life. It required courage, trust, and a willingness to step into the unknown. Along the way, I leaned on the support of family, friends, mentors, and a community that believed in me—especially during moments of uncertainty. I also invested in my growth through programs like Launch Raleigh, the Wake Tech Small Business Center, and Pathways to Entrepreneurship, gaining practical tools, confidence, and a strong network of fellow entrepreneurs.
My business began humbly, renting a spa room in Garner and building my clientele one service at a time. Those early days—long hours, small wins, and steady determination—laid the foundation for my brand. With the guidance of mentors and supportive professionals, I was able to grow into a welcoming space rooted in care and intention.
As my vision expanded, I transitioned closer to Raleigh, sharing a suite with other women entrepreneurs. This move broadened my reach and deepened my love for collaboration, creativity, and community.
Today, my work extends beyond skincare. I believe caring for the skin is an act of self-respect and empowerment—a space where people can reconnect with themselves, restore confidence, and feel genuinely supported. Alongside my esthetics practice, I continue offering one-on-one coaching, staying rooted in the mission that first inspired my journey: helping people step into healthier, more confident versions of themselves. My story is one of growth, courage, and trust—proof that with faith, resilience, and community, it’s possible to build a life and career aligned with purpose.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey has been deeply rewarding, but it hasn’t been easy. One of the biggest challenges was learning everything that comes with running a business—far beyond what esthetics school teaches. Alongside the work I love, I had to quickly take on marketing, branding, finances, scheduling, and all the behind-the-scenes responsibilities.
Confidence was another ongoing challenge. Early on, I struggled with self-doubt and the fear of judgment, both from others and from my own inner critic. Promoting my work felt uncomfortable because I believed humility meant staying quiet. A close friend helped me reframe that mindset, reminding me that marketing isn’t bragging—it’s simply sharing how I can help people. That shift became a turning point.
There were also real-life pressures that come with building something from the ground up. Financial uncertainty and stress were very real, and there were moments of doubt and overwhelm—feelings that still surface at times. But each challenge has strengthened my resilience. Over time, I’ve come to see marketing as storytelling and connection rather than self-promotion, and what once felt intimidating is now something I genuinely enjoy. Every obstacle has helped me grow, not just as a business owner, but as a person, leaving me more grounded in my purpose and confident in my work than ever before.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Face Recovery By Jamie?
I’m a solo esthetician and business owner focused on results-driven skincare while creating a safe, supportive space where clients feel genuinely cared for. I specialize in acne-focused skincare, corrective treatments, and fully customized facials designed to support long-term skin health, confidence, and overall well-being. My approach goes beyond surface-level results—I prioritize education, intentional care, and sustainable routines so clients feel empowered in their skin long after their appointments.
I’ve become known for creating an environment where clients can truly relax, feel seen, and leave not only glowing, but lighter. Many describe their sessions as a reset—where effective treatments and genuine connection coexist. I believe skincare is deeply personal, and my goal is always to meet clients where they are, without judgment.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me and the business I’ve built from the ground up through authenticity, consistency, and community support. Every returning client, referral, and transformation—both physical and emotional—reinforces that I’m walking in my purpose.
What sets me apart is my background in mental health and recovery support, which shapes the way I show up for my clients with compassion, patience, and understanding. I don’t believe in quick fixes or one-size-fits-all skincare. Instead, I focus on education, honest conversations, and realistic plans that help clients feel confident and comfortable in their skin. That mission guides everything I do.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
One of the things I love most about Raleigh is the variety it offers. There’s always something to explore—from beautiful greenways and nature trails to art museums, local restaurants, unique shops, and a great coffee culture. As a small business owner, I also appreciate the strong sense of community and support for local entrepreneurs. There’s a collaborative energy here that makes it easy to connect, grow, and feel inspired. And on a lighter note, I’ve recently discovered the growing number of dirty soda shops around town, which have quickly become a favorite little indulgence.
What I find most challenging are the gaps that exist in access to care, housing, and support for individuals experiencing homelessness or navigating mental health and substance use challenges. I also recognize these issues aren’t unique to Raleigh — many cities face them. What gives me hope is that Raleigh is full of people who genuinely care and are working toward solutions. As our city grows, I believe we have both an opportunity and a responsibility to make sure everyone is supported and uplifted.
