Today we’d like to introduce you to Jena Plummer.
Jena, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started Little Seed Counseling in 2020 with a focus on supporting people navigating complex trauma. My goal was to create a space where clients could explore their experiences without shame — where growth felt possible, even in the middle of hard things.
As time went on and I learned more about my own neurodivergence, my work began to shift. I started noticing how often ADHD, Autism, and trauma overlap, and how many people were struggling not because something was “wrong” with them, but because the world wasn’t designed with them in mind.
What began as a trauma-informed practice naturally evolved into one that’s both neurodiversity-affirming and LGBTQIA+-affirming. Today, Little Seed Counseling is a team of creative, curious clinicians who share that same commitment: helping people reconnect with their authenticity and move through life with more ease and self-understanding.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s part of what’s made it meaningful. Starting a practice just months before the pandemic hit meant adapting constantly, often without a clear roadmap. There were times I wasn’t sure how to balance supporting my clients, my team, and myself all at once.
As the practice grew, I also had to grow as a leader, learning how to hold boundaries, navigate hard conversations, and trust my instincts. There’s been a lot of trial and error, especially in figuring out how to create a workplace that’s both sustainable and affirming for neurodivergent clinicians.
It hasn’t been easy, but each challenge has shaped Little Seed into what it is today: a space that’s resilient, flexible, and grounded in community care rather than perfection.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Little Seed Counseling is a mental health practice based in Greensboro, North Carolina. We specialize in working with adults navigating ADHD, Autism, trauma, anxiety, and identity exploration. Our team is known for providing care that is neurodiversity-affirming, LGBTQIA+-affirming, and grounded in curiosity and creativity.
What sets us apart is the way we approach therapy — not as a process of fixing, but of understanding. We believe growth comes from self-awareness, compassion, and connection rather than trying to fit into a mold that was never made for you. Every therapist on our team shares that same philosophy, which makes our space feel both safe and deeply human.
Brand-wise, I’m proud that Little Seed has become known for more than just therapy. We’ve built community partnerships, hosted creative events, and created spaces for both clients and clinicians to feel seen and celebrated. Our mission is to nurture the seed of authenticity in every person we work with, helping them anchor into who they are and grow from there.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My biggest advice is to give yourself permission to grow slowly. When you’re starting something new, it’s easy to compare your beginning to someone else’s middle and feel like you’re behind. But there’s so much value in letting things unfold at a sustainable pace.
I also wish I had known how important it is to build systems that support you — not just your clients or your business. Burnout can sneak in easily when your work is rooted in care, so making space for rest, community, and reflection isn’t optional; it’s part of what keeps the work meaningful.
Most of all, trust that your voice and your vision are enough. You don’t have to have everything figured out to start. You just have to take the next right step and keep showing up with intention.
