Hidden Gems: Meet Jessica Whipple

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Whipple.

Hi Jessica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It was in my final semester at Carolina, with creeping post-grad anxiety, that I decided to start my own business. Like many others, I’m sure, I chose a major that aligned with my intellectual passions but by the end of it, I knew I didn’t want to follow a related career path. Searching for financial freedom and the ability to work from anywhere, I discovered the virtual assistant industry during a late-night scroll. As soon as I learned that I could provide services for podcasts, I knew that was what I wanted to niche down to since I had been a long-time podcast junkie. I immediately enrolled in a podcast production course online and then I launched my business on Instagram!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has certainly not been a smooth road getting to where I am today. The biggest struggles I’ve faced have been mental. I felt major imposter syndrome! I was comparing myself to others in my industry, I was afraid to show up online, and I was worried that maybe nobody would want to hire me. It’s tough to overcome these mental hurdles, but not impossible. Everyone has their own strategies for dealing with those limiting beliefs.

For me, I remind myself that my journey is unique and I’m on my own timeline. It’s also helpful to surround yourself with a supportive community. I’ve met many other podcast professionals in the industry and they all understand the struggles of running a business online. I’ve also hired a business coach and that has helped me feel more confident in myself and my business!

As you know, we’re big fans of Jessica Whipple. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business is a Podcast Management business. Podcast management is an emerging field right now and it ranges from pre-production to post-production services. Some podcast professionals also help launch podcasts. I specialize in launches and post-production.

For launches, I help businesses go from idea to launch in a month or two, providing personalized strategy, technical support, and guidance from start to finish on topics ranging from recording equipment to mindset. Many podcasts end up failing and becoming inactive, that’s why having a launch plan and strategy makes a big difference and sets you up for success.

My other package, post-production, is everything that comes after they stop recording. In a nutshell: editing, show notes, episode distribution, and promotion. Often, businesses will create podcasts for lead generation but they may not have the time, the knowledge, or simply, the desire to do all the behind-the-scenes work to produce a podcast. I’m here to take that off their plate and create a polished and professional-sounding product in which they can feel confident.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned so far is being persistent. Persistence is so important! When I first started out, some days I felt overwhelmed by all the information out there or disheartened because I wasn’t at the same place as someone else. I’m so glad I pushed past those feelings and kept moving forward! You never know when you’re on the cusp of finding a new client or coming up with a new idea. That’s why I think being patient and persistent is crucial for any business owner. I’ve made mistakes along the way and at times succumbed to my inner perfectionist, but I’ve always kept trying and learned from my mistakes!
