Hidden Gems: Meet Jordan Prosser of Ditzy Daisies Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Prosser

Hi Jordan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started Ditzy Daisies Wellness at the end of April. I’m currently a graduate student at UNCW studying supply chain and work full time as a project coordinator. I’ve worked in the beauty industry in some capacity for almost 6 years and it’s my true passion. As clean makeup became popular I started reading ingredient labels and looking up research and studies on the effects of them, My friends often came to me for advice on skincare or natural makeup and I thought “why don’t I just start sourcing and selling it”.

I’ve always been a workaholic. Sometimes to a fault. For the last year I was working at minimum 50-70 hours a week on top of school. At one point I was working my office job, catering weddings, and was a hostess at rooftop restaurant (in the middle of winter it was windy and COLD). Sometimes I’d only have 1 day off work a month.

I realized I needed to step back after taking a solo trip to Puerto Rico in February and feeling reenergized. A couple months later it clicked for me. I was tossing and turning in bed one night and realized there’s not many places to get clean beauty products that aren’t large makeup stores. I started doing market research and stayed up all night planning, applying for my LLC, and signing up for wholesale with companies I loved.

I’ve always loved attending small-business and makers markets and figured that would be my starting point. I did my first market in May and only sold things to my friends, but I saw the silver lining. I was able to meet other vendors, practice my set up, and hangout with my friends all day.

The next handful of markets I attended were successful and I’ve already made so many amazing connections with other vendors and the community. Even if I break-even on a market day, I’m always able to take something away from it, whether it’s a good conversation, some new product photos, or even passing out a handful of business cards.

In the future I’d like to make small-batch products of my own; however, with graduate school it limits my free time significantly. I’m happy at the moment bringing good, quality beauty and wellness products from other small businesses to my customers.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One challenge I’ve faced so far has been finding true natural products. Sometimes wholesalers don’t list all their ingredients, which raises major red flags. I particularly like to work with North Carolina based brands, but only from a 2-hour radius of Raleigh to avoid accidental competition at a market. Although there’s many natural beauty brands, a lot don’t offer wholesale, so I’m constantly researching new products though and fine-tuning my product offerings.

So far, no major challenges have occurred, which I’m very grateful for. Everyone has been extremely supportive of my business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Ditzy Daisies Wellness is a online and market based beauty and wellness boutique.

I’m known amongst my friends as a researcher and planner, which directly applies to my business. I’m constantly researching products and ingredients. I have a meticulous market schedule and plan inventory constantly around it.

I’d say that my genuine care for sourcing truly natural products sets me apart from other clean-beauty retailers. As I’ve mentioned before, many clean beauty products are not truly clean and there’s no true regulation of the industry. My focus is on ingredients the average Joe can read and understand. You shouldn’t have to be a chemist to know what’s in your products.

I’m currently most proud of the connections I’ve made with customers and allowing myself the grace to jump headfirst out of my comfort zone.

For readers, I’d love for you to know that I offer local porch drop-off around Raleigh. If you order from a large makeup brand you could have another large company drop it off; however, if you order from me I’m the one bringing it straight to your door. I truly am a one-man-show but I like to take ownership of the entire customer experience.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The clean beauty industry is booming currently, but growth is expected to rapidly increase. People care more about what they eat and put on their skin. As we gain more knowledge about effects of ingredients I think more people will begin to care. I ideally would love to see clean beauty products become more affordable and accessible.
