Hidden Gems: Meet Kirsten Pierce of La Fleur Aesthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kirsten Pierce.

Kirsten, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin? 
I embarked on my nursing career in the cardiovascular step-down and intensive care units (ICU), driven by the aspiration of becoming a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA). Swiftly advancing into anesthesia, I found immense satisfaction in my new career. Unfortunately, my journey took an unexpected turn when I developed neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome, resulting in severe pain, numbness/tingling, and diminished function in my arms and hands. 

To address this condition, I underwent an extensive surgery that involved the removal of muscles, a rib, and scar tissue affecting my nerves. Subsequent years of dedicated physical therapy were crucial in regaining strength and flexibility. Although the surgery successfully alleviated my pain and improved my day-to-day functionality, returning to the physical demands of anesthesia proved challenging. Multiple second opinions revealed the likelihood of recurrent scar tissue necessitating additional surgeries if I were to resume working in the operating room. This period posed a formidable challenge as my entire career seemed to be in jeopardy. 

After allowing myself a brief moment of self-reflection, I decided to transform adversity into opportunity. Leveraging my longstanding passion for skincare and a lingering interest in dermatology, I chose to establish an aesthetic boutique. Focused on delivering natural results, my boutique aims to instill confidence in clients who dedicate their lives to caring for others but often neglect self-care. This pivot became a testament to resilience and a newfound dedication to empowering others through aesthetic care. 

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I was in the midst of launching my aesthetics business when the pandemic struck, presenting unexpected challenges. However, this period proved instrumental in refining my business acumen and transforming me into a more strategic and knowledgeable business owner. Despite the hurdles, I dedicated significant efforts to foster business growth, pursue continuous education, and meticulously shape my brand. 

Another obstacle arose from my desire to practice at the pinnacle of my nursing license, which was somewhat constrained outside the operating room. To overcome this limitation, I made the decision to return to school for my family nurse practitioner degree, completing my studies in 2023. Navigating the demands of academia alongside my roles as a wife and mother to two children presented its own set of challenges, but it was a journey that has contributed significantly to my personal and professional growth

My vision for La Fleur Aesthetics has always been to create an intimate boutique practice with a serene spa-like atmosphere.
