Hidden Gems: Meet Kyler Evans of Vybez Kitchen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyler Evans.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am Chef Ky, a 23-year-old restaurant owner with some of the best Jamaican food and Soul food in Greensboro. I own a business called Vybez Kitchen. Vybez Kitchen started only two years ago out of my parent’s kitchen with my cousin Ari aka Nami in Jersey. I went to A&T so when the summer was over I knew I had to bring Da Vybez back with me to Greensboro and did. I started selling to college students at A&T and then UNCG.

I just kept going where eventually I found a late-night Hookah lounge to set up my tent, caught the foot traffic, and sold to their customers. I just kept going then I did a large amount of research and I found a ghost kitchen called the City Kitch. I knew it was time to become official. I became official at the end of January. A couple of months after becoming officially permitted I had a surreal moment, I got accepted to be a food vendor at North Carolinas largest festival… Dreamville.

I never did a festival or even fed more than 150 people in a day. This festival had 40,000 people. I handle Dreamville like a pro. As I’m doing all of this I’m telling myself there’s no way I’m not fulfilling my destiny. So I’m going to keep going.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, it’s been days where I’ve made 5 sales, some days none. It’s been days when I didn’t want to get out of bed. I’ve made a lot of mistakes but it made me smarter. I’ve struggled with a lot of things I’m young so I know I’m going to struggle but I have a head start.

We’ve been impressed with Vybez Kitchen, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Vybez Kitchen is a ghost kitchen restaurant. Y’all should know that we are the new kid on the block ready to take over the game. We are known for Jamaican food and Soul food. We are different from other businesses because we specialize in two different cuisines, not one.

We are the only restaurant in Greensboro that sells Rasta Pasta. We are the creators of Jerk Chicken egg rolls yes you read that right. I am most proud brand-wise just how far we came and with me being a 23-year-old restaurant owner. We do to-go plates, private catering, and 5-star private dinners. Shoot us a dm on IG @VybezKitchen.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The hustle, commitment, ambition, humbleness, faith, and good Vybez was most important to my success.

Pricing:

  • Catering starts at $1000
  • Private Dinners Starting at $500
