Hidden Gems: Meet Kyra Joyner of The 2 Boujee Collection

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyra Joyner.

Hi Kyra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello, I’m Kyra Joyner and my business is The 2 Boujee Collection. I started my brand in May of 2020 when Covid hit. It was my senior year of High School and I had lost the important things many seniors get like prank & ditch day, prom, and normal graduation. The world completely shut down and I had a lot of free time on my hands aside from working my 9-5 job at Levi Strauss Co. Outlet. I had always talked about being a boss with my dad and finally decided to turn the ideas into reality.

In 2018, my Father passed away the day after my 16th birthday. He taught me a lot about entrepreneurship. He was a business owner himself. and in 2020 I lost a dear friend to gun violence who had so much life to live and wanted to be an entrepreneur as well. So I created my business for not just them but many other melanin people who passed away before they could accomplish their dreams and also for those who feel like they can’t but in all actuality they can if they just put their mind to it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road at all, when you first start your business you think all your friends and family will support you but that is far from true. When I first launched I thought I would sell out but I didn’t. It was mind-blowing to me because of all the effort and time I put into my brand and marketing but still, I didn’t sell out.

That was hurtful and some business owners would quit but I just said well hey this tactic didn’t work let’s try a new one for the next launch or rebrand. Once I got to college it got harder because I had to be a spokeswoman and showcase my brand on campus and that was scary because I wasn’t the most outspoken when it came to talking to others. But I had to break out of my shell and it helped me have a 1 thousand dollar day at a popup event on campus.

As you know, we’re big fans of The 2 Boujee Collection. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The 2 Boujee Collection was created to change the narrative of a boujee woman/ man. When many people think of boujee, they think arrogant, stuck up, only about herself/himself. But we hear at 2 Boujee Co. see a boujee person as luxurious, wealthy, and a person who sets the standard in how they look, feel, and dress.

We are known for our 4-hour-lasting lip gloss. Our lip gloss nourishes and moisturizes your lips to bring relief to dry lips. While enhancing the lips’ natural color/shape of the lip due to the high shine.

What sets us apart from many other brands is that we have a specific customer. We cater to melanated skin complements, all our glosses look amazing on all shades of skin, not just the fair skin tones. We want every shade of brown women to feel like they have a lip gloss shade perfect for their day-to-day glossy lips. I also sell clothing products for casual, business attire, and party attire. Listening to customers’ requests I have a strong purchasing base at the college.

The proudest day I had with my brand was selling out of all my inventory at a pop-up event at North Carolina Central University. I made $1,000 in less than 3 hours! Which was big for me!! Because I’ve never made that many sales in a month before through my website! So to make it in 3 hours only told me that the sky’s the limit as long as I keep pushing forward and never give up.

I truly want readers to know that this brand was made by melanin women for melanin people. I’ve created formulas by hand that truly add nourishment to the body. Also that it’s okay to be Boujee forget the negative connotation it had and embrace it in its full capacity.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The advice I wish I knew would be to plan first! Plan marketing tactics and utilize TikTok and Instagram reels! Your family and friends will never be the most supportive, strangers are more inclined to support and buy from you than family. But no one will ride harder for your brand than you and God.

Also, Start small then branch out into more things! Lastly, never sell yourself short! People pay for all these big expensive brands so a two-digit price won’t hurt someone’s pockets who truly wants to support or likes your product.

  • 4 hour long lasting Glosses cost $11
