Hidden Gems: Meet Laura Fitzgerald of LiFt Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Fitzgerald.

Hi Laura, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
With two decades of media and event planning experience in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, I founded LiFt® Consulting in 2006. In 2012, LiFt and was officially endorsed as an exclusive PR Business Resource partner with L’Oreal.

My passion for public relations surfaced during my college years at Villanova University where I earned a BA in Communication and Business minor. Soon after, my public relations career began in New York City at Marina Maher Communications, a top-tier PR Agency. My time in NYC proved a pivotal jumping-off point for my career, where I managed media relations for accounts such as Johnson & Johnson’s Roc Skincare, Schering Plough’s Coppertone, and Crème d’Olives. Being particularly interested in beauty product-focused PR, I also enjoyed being a member of the Lifestyles & Trends team of the Agency, which tracked ever-changing beauty, fashion, and media trends.

In 2004, I joined L’Oreal USA as Public Relations Director and led all PR initiatives for the Biotherm United States, executing the PR launch of the brand’s first e-commerce Website. I also coordinated the soft and grand openings of freestanding stores, directed all national and regional press relations, and executed large-scale media and consumer events at such prestigious venues as the American Museum of National History, The Sundance Film Festival, The Tents at NY Fashion Week and The NY Library.

In 2006, I started consulting for L’Oreal hair care professional brands (REDKEN and KERASTASE) servicing hair salons and their PR and Marketing needs all across the country. By bringing the resources of large corporate partners to smaller businesses, my team and I were able to develop a strong niche for working with more entrepreneurs and start-up businesses. LiFt’s hands-on approach to PR and Marketing has become a welcomed resource to beauty, lifestyle, and health teams for more than 15 years.

Recently named a member of The Female Founder Collective, my mission is to provide innovative business solutions to a host of PR and Marketing challenges by offering one-on-one counsel to small businesses and helping to LIFT large corporate teams in short and long-term team solutions.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
From the very beginning of my LiFt story, I started with the personal mission of life balance and only working with businesses that aligned with my passion for surrounding myself with exceptional humans.

I have had the pleasure of working with dream teams and dynamite leaders. Has everyone I worked with been perfect, no. Have the past 15 years been without struggle, also no – but I learned the most during the moments of struggle.

From large-scale Public Relations programs to the execution of all aspects of marketing and PR execution: branding, social media, Web design, talent, and press relations. We have been in the PR and marketing game long enough to know what small businesses need, and what large PR and marketing teams deserve from their PR partners.

Our longevity sets us apart from others. We have been in the trenches of PR and marketing since BEFORE Facebook and the iPhone were invented!

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Mentors can happen informally, or formally. My best advice is to network any way you can (engaging on social media or attending IRL events) with people you admire personally and professionally. Be grateful! A handwritten note is more powerful than you ever will know.
