Hidden Gems: Meet Letitia Petway of Social Jewels Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Letitia Petway.

Hi Letitia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I graduated with a degree in Journalism and Mass Communication and immediately found myself in grassroots marketing roles—helping people figure out how to reach audiences and grow their projects.

I spent a year in Los Angeles working on the grassroots marketing team for an independent film, Play the Game, written and directed by Marc Feinberg and starring Andy Griffith, Doris Roberts, and Geoffrey Owens. I helped secure radio and online interviews and worked with senior communities and nonprofits to drive attendance when the film released in different cities. It was very much a “butts in seats” mission, and being part of a small, independent project gave me a strong sense of pride. When I work with people, their baby becomes my baby. I naturally operate from a “we” mindset, because feeling connected to the work matters to me.

After my mom passed, I spent time in Atlanta with family before returning to North Carolina. Around that time, I was working at Time Warner Cable when a friend encouraged me to apply to iContact. I started on the support team and eventually moved into the Services team, which is where my career truly began. I was learning strategy, understanding clients’ marketing goals, and seeing how businesses use email to grow.

That role brought together everything I enjoy: serving people, learning quickly, building relationships, and coming up with ideas. Today I help small businesses turn email into a reliable revenue channel—often by identifying where leads are leaking before they ever make it into the funnel. That “we’re in this together” mindset has been the one constant throughout my entire journey.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges for me has been imposter syndrome. Even after more than 10 years working in email marketing, helping build successful programs, and having clients come back or seek me out again, there are still moments where that doubt creeps in.

Part of it is the nature of marketing. Things change constantly, and there’s always a new platform or new “best practice” floating around. Over time, I’ve learned to stay grounded in what I can control: doing the work, testing, learning, and letting the results speak. Seeing the impact of my work and hearing directly from clients helps me push through those moments and keep moving forward.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Social Jewels Consulting is my email and lifecycle marketing consultancy. I help businesses use email and SMS to build real customer relationships, not just send promotions. When the strategy is right, email becomes a consistent way to turn first-time buyers into repeat customers who trust your brand and actually look forward to hearing from you.

The name is personal. “Social” comes from the direct connection email and texting create. Your list is the lifeline of your program, and someone giving you their email or phone number is a big deal. “Jewels” is my daughter’s name, but it also reflects the strategy nuggets and practical advice I love sharing with clients.

I work as a Senior Lifecycle and Email Marketing Consultant with DTC e-commerce brands, B2B e-commerce companies, and small businesses. I especially enjoy working with teams that are either brand new to email or have been sending for a while but don’t have a clear strategy behind it.

What sets me apart is how I partner with clients. I don’t work like a vendor, I work like an extension of the team. I’m most proud of the trust I’ve built and the fact that many clients come back or keep working with me long-term. That relationship-first mindset is the foundation of everything I do.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happiest is living in alignment with my faith and being present for my family. Being a good example for my children (Zamar, 19 & Jewel, 8) matters deeply to me. I want them to see what it looks like to walk in your gifts, trust yourself, and build something with purpose.

It’s especially important to me as a mother to my daughter, Jewel. I want her to grow up knowing she can do anything she sets her mind to and that she doesn’t have to shrink herself or wait for permission. Knowing that I’m modeling that kind of confidence and intention for both of my children brings me a lot of joy and fulfillment.
