Today we’d like to introduce you to Lonnie Ervin.
Hi Lonnie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
E Fusion as a company was created conceptually because of the identified need to aid, inform and support the students who often do not have access to resources that make them economically flourish. It was important to create a governing board that had the passion for making a difference and had experienced the varying items we were to set our mission to address. We’ve gotten where we are by personal philanthropic giving and searching out community partners and agencies with a mission of community support. We have now been in the business of supporting our communities of need both local and afar.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to making a difference has been paved with barriers and struggles, particularly financial ones. Other barriers are centered around getting agencies to create processes that are navigable for the population it’s designed to serve and getting them to involved the stakeholders.
We’ve been impressed with E Fusion Solutions, Inc, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Legacy programs just to name a few, were created as a result of community interactions and identified needs of the persons we are to serve.
Project Reach is a long-time program created after a former dropout student came to the alternative school he last attended and asked if I had a computer from the repair program he could have for school. This student had experienced a host of life curves after dropping out of high school such as homelessness and imprisonment. He obtained his GED and needed the computer for college work. We were able to provide this student with a computer for navigating the college coursework. He later became one of our most sought-after youth inspiration speakers letting students in on his life’s journey. (Serving college students primarily post-COVID since a lot of schools have become technology one-to-one).
Project Reach is an ongoing 24/7 service where we offer technology to youth in or entering college in an effort to improve the digital divide. The offerings are based on the availability of equipment.
Fostering Love is a program of dignity and love. Having seen children in foster care being taken away from whatever life they had often with only the few belonging they can gather in a bag (often a garbage bag). The E-Fusion board members wanted to impact these youth of all ages by giving them something that shows we care and they are not alone in this journey. The bags have hygiene items, personal gifts, gift cards, electronics, and various items. So far, we have issued approx… 1000 bags.
We are intricately woven into our community as having a collaborative voice on programs, services, and efforts promoted and provided to and for those economically at risk. Past vice president of a Wake County Native program, collaborator in Dads Matter programs, and Social Equity Vitality Collaborative to name just a few.
All these efforts ultimately are to improve the current and future quality of life by educating the persons we serve. Sometimes, just to place a smile on the face and heart.
What sets our company apart is we (E Fusion Board) are products of the communities we serve forever, linking us to our passion. We have no salaried persons on staff.
We want the readers to know is that we believe anyone can make a difference in the community by volunteering time, resources, and experiences.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Christmas time, the treats and gifts we got, and playing with our friends outside all over the neighborhood.
