Today we’d like to introduce you to Luiza Barteldes.
Luiza, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was a ballet dancer living in NYC in the early 2000s. I worked different jobs to support myself. One day I realized it made sense for me to work with something related to the body, due to my extensive dance background. So I found pilates! I had a good friend who was also a teacher and I asked her to mentor me into the certification program. Her name was Pam Pardi. Turned out she was a well known pilates professional who trained under Roman’a Kryzanowska, Joseph Pilates only protege. So I got into the certification program at True Pilates New York, the original pilates studio where Joseph started everything.
Right after getting certified , I moved to Chicago where I had my own business. It was called The Pilates Loft of Chicago. I lived there for almost ten years and then decided to move to warmer climates. I am now in Cary, North Carolina running my home based pilates studio and enjoying the outdoors. It’s great!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not smooth at all! I was 8 months pregnant with my son when I opened my first pilates studio back in Chicago! I was contracting at someone else’s practice when she suddenly decided to close. I had no option but starting my own business, and I had to do everything before giving birth! I got it done and it was great at the end, but it was stressful!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I have a home based pilates studio. I train one client at time, so it’s a very private practice. I have been a pilates instructor for over 15 years, and I’ve always had a full schedule. I worked with people from many walks of life. Business professionals, artists, athletes, stay at home moms, students, dancers and even kids.
I have extensive experience with injuries, sports performance, pre and postpartum, elderly population , cancer survivors.
I am very proud to have clients since my first day, who eventually became my friends. I have a sincere interest in helping people to move without pain, walk better, to have quality of life!
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I am very thankful and lucky to have worked with incredible teachers who were willing to share their extensive knowledge with me.
Also I am blessed to have the most wonderful supportive clients who are now family.
