Hidden Gems: Meet Manuel (Paco) Gonzalez of Yellow Crayons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Manuel (Paco) Gonzalez.

Manuel (Paco), we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2017, I started Yellow Crayons as a marketing and graphic design company with a goal to help small companies grow and market their business. People started asking us about custom t-shirts and I would send them to other companies. I soon realized there wasn’t many options for smaller companies to get custom apparel at the lower quantities they needed. This led me to buy my first direct-to-garment machine and start printing custom t-shirts in house.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth journey. I went into an industry I knew nothing about. So, not only did I have to learn how to start a company, run a company, and grow it; I also had to learn the ins and outs of apparel. Every year is a new challenge with scaling our company and hiring new staff.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Yellow Crayons?
Yellow Crayons was made to help small businesses grow. While we deal with a lot of big name companies nowadays, small businesses have always been at our core. Other custom t-shirt businesses require a minimum on orders, making it difficult for smaller companies to get the right amount of shirts that they need. There’s no minimum to how many shirts you can buy at Yellow Crayons, so even if someone wants to come in and only order one shirt, we’ll make it for them. We wanted to make a space where anybody can come in and personally get guided through the process of making custom marketing materials. Everything can be done in store, from having graphic designers create a new logo to picking out your own t-shirt from our wide selection in house. We always put local businesses at the forefront, often putting more time and care into our local clients.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
We’re a very community oriented business. We are in collaboration with many Fayetteville sports teams such as the Fayetteville Liberty and the Fayetteville Marksmen, as well as local non-profits such as the Two-Six Project. We’re constantly looking for more ways to give back to the community.
