Hidden Gems: Meet Marti Hampton of Marti Hampton Real Estate

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marti Hampton. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Marti first came to Raleigh nearly 30 years ago as a single parent on welfare with 3 young children. After considering her career opportunities for her new life, she chose real estate as it seemed like an industry with an unlimited “ceiling”, where you have the ability to earn as much as you put into it.

Although she was hesitant at first, she began working actively at a boutique no-name firm with 2-3 other agents. As her confidence in her work grew, she reached out to Prudential Real Estate and spoke directly to the lead broker. “Mr. Roseberry, you don’t know me, but my name is Marti Hampton. If I come to work for you, I’ll make you a lot of money.”

Marti made that dream come true. She worked for Prudential for 8 years, assembling a team of all-star agents. She would later find a better financial opportunity at RE/MAX – which was then a new brand in town. She doubled her income in the first year of working there and was named “Rookie of the Year”. In 2001, she expanded her opportunities by purchasing a RE/MAX franchise in Raleigh.

Over the course of her career, Marti has accrued multiple awards for being the #1 RE/MAX Team in the US, #3 RE/MAX Team in the World, and multiple Diamond Club Awards. She has also earned the RE/MAX Circle of Legends, Hall of Fame, Lifetime Achievement, and Luminary of Distinction Awards. She has been listed as one of “The Most Powerful Women in Real Estate” in National Relocation & Real Estate Magazine and has been a finalist for Inman’s “Innovator of the Year Award” for her international Coming Soon Homes platform.

Following 20 years of partnership with RE/MAX, Marti had to consider whether she would renew with them, go independent or find a new company. With new technology changing the way that agents perform their real estate duties, Marti found it critical that her new brand be forward-thinking with its tools, technology, and services. Several of her acquaintances in the field were moving to a new firm that had begun to spread their name across the country – eXp Realty.

Realizing that this move would make all the difference for benefitting her buyers and sellers, Marti made the jump. The fastest-growing brokerage in the world, eXp has nearly doubled its volume of agents in the last year alone and houses agents across 15 different countries. Marti continues to lead one of Raleigh’s highest-grossing and widely known real estate teams with the strength of heart and mind.

“I am in the business of doing it differently”, reflects Marti. “I have a different way of looking at things. We, as agents, have to think bigger and better.”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting out as a Triangle Realtor nearly 30 years ago, Marti was rebuilding her life from the ground up. As a single mother on welfare with little to her name, she laid a firm foundation for herself through hard work, long hours, and incredible energy. Marti’s determination and grit developed into the masterful career she has today.

Every move to a different firm was a new challenge – in supporting her agents, finding new talents, and building her brand.

“Life is never a smooth road,” Marti says. “There’s always plenty of ups and downs. We don’t grow out when things are easy, we grow when we face challenges.”

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Integrity. Integrity is the key to building trust with our clients and what holds our brand together. Integrity challenges us every day. Is it easier to tell part of the truth, rather than the whole truth? Is it easier to allow integrity to be a little gray, or is it consistent and steadfast? A real estate transaction intersects many points that test the integrity of people. Whether you are disclosing issues about your credit to your loan officer or disclosing past or current pertinent information on your property if the question comes to your mind, “should I?” then the answer is always “yes.”
