Hidden Gems: Meet Melody Council of Christian Styles Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melody Council.

Melody Council
Hi Melody, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I moved here Jan 6, 2006, from a small town in NC and from the corporate world. I decided to step out on faith and open a salon on Dec 15, 2006, after working in one for about 6 months. I built a strong clientele by word of mouth and eventually opened my own salon suite on Westgate Rd. Feb 2008; and there is where the vendor market expo began, the homeless outreach to feed the local women’s shelter along with the street mission to feed the homeless, the Purse Project began to give the women in the shelter gently used and new handbags stuffed with goodies every 4th Tuesday in December, so that they may have a gift; also the Teen & Tweens Social Outreach programs to help kids with going to school for free with grants and scholarships guidance and much more.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was and wasn’t smooth. I had a few interesting things happen as I worked under others in a salon setting, and that helped me see what not to do when I got my salon, such as money management, time, structure, trustworthiness, and so forth.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I have a suite that goes by appointments only for peace and relaxation. I also travel to the elderly and/or clients who may not be able to travel. Specializing in healthy hair from natural, relaxed, color treated, cuts, weddings, men color, and more. I try to keep life simple with no overcrowding for services, helping one client at a time.

I do mentorship plus educate students in the hair industry. Business planning, tax assistance preparation, credit repair, notary, assistant for personal and business. I am an author of a self-help guide to freedom for those who may need assistance with a divorce. I am a jack of all trades, they say; I just say I have some talents, experiences, and trades.

I am most proud of the 11-year feeding program “Ms. Martha’s Meals,” where volunteers come help every 4th Tues at 6:30 pm to serve now 65 ladies in the local shelter, and we pass out 25+ hot food meals to the homeless on the street when we leave the shelter, to the people in the surrounding areas.

I want readers to know that we are here to serve the community with love, respect, peace, and kindness through our outreach and our paid services, which helps to fund & feed the outreach. 100% grateful.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I use the Bible as an everyday guide to stay grounded.

I listen to Bishop D. Bronner on YouTube.  The BB company is also another reason why I’m in the hair industry because of the great hair shows I attended in hair school back in the late ’90s that helped inspire me to become an educator & platform artist back in June 2010-present. But I have been doing baby doll hair since 1976, thanks to my wonderful parents.

Resources such as square card processing are the most reasonable and cost-effective these days. Free platforms such as social media to put our information out to the public. I didn’t know anyone but two girl cousins and one friend girl prior to moving to Raleigh; now there is a huge village of male & female supporters.

During covid, I must give credit to Wake Tech Business Center, Mr. Tennie, and SBA for the free online webinars which came in handy during those tough times.
