Hidden Gems: Meet Michelle Moseley and Gabriel Frady of SimplyNCgoods

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Moseley and Gabriel Frady.

Hi Michelle and Gabriel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself. 
We’re North Carolina natives who love highlighting the many wonderful things about our home state. The restrictions and lockdowns of 2020 brought lots of unexpected difficulties to our local small businesses and made us even more passionate about supporting local and buying small.  That passion led to us becoming the owners of SimplyNCgoods, a subscription box service that curates quarterly boxes filled with unique goods all from NC-based businesses.

We loved the idea of SimplyNCgoods from the first time we heard about it from the original owner and were subscribers from the start. Learning about new-to-us products and businesses from NC fit perfectly with our passion for exploring and sharing the best of our state. So, when the original owner decided to sell the business in mid-2023, we were hopeful that someone would take over the helm and continue to support and share NC-based artisans through these mail-order boxes.

Well, that “someone” turned into being us! We officially became the owners of SimplyNCgoods in July 2023, and the first box curated by us was shipped in early November. We made a few changes within SimplyNC goods but are committed to the vision of sharing unique NC-based products with folks while also supporting small businesses.

We’ve already had some great conversations with artisans and small business owners all over the state as we build relationships and plan for future boxes. We love learning the stories behind the products we include in each SimplyNCgoods box and being able to share that with others.

Each SimplyNCgoods box is thoughtfully curated to represent the variety of items created in North Carolina. We personally handle all communication with both our vendor partners and our customers. We are committed to ensuring that our vendor partners are paid fairly for their products and that recipients of a SimplyNCgoods box know how to purchase additional items from their favorite small businesses.

We’re excited to continue writing the SimplyNCgoods story.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There is a lot to learn any time you take on a new business. One of our biggest challenges has been related to website design and unexpected glitches. We decided to create a full website for SimplyNCgoods – it previously had only a standalone online store site. Gabriel has put in lots of time in building the website, ensuring the store functions well, and troubleshooting any odd technology issues that have arisen.  Our customers have been great about letting us know if things seem glitchy on their end, so we can address issues and make sure everything is running smoothly.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
SimplyNCgoods offers quarterly subscription boxes filled with unique products made by NC-based artisans. We specialize in curating boxes that highlight the variety of items that are made right here in North Carolina and in supporting the creators and small business owners who create the products. One thing that sets us apart from other subscription box services is that we are not focused on getting our products for the lowest price; we want to ensure that the artists, creators, and business owners who are our vendor partners are paid fairly for their work.

We are proud of several things about our brand. We offer a product that reflects exactly what our name says – customers will receive goods that simply represent NC. We are proud that we work to curate relationships with our vendor partners and seek out other ways to highlight and celebrate creators and small businesses around NC. We are proud to be part of this unique way of sharing some of the wonders of our home state with others by shipping it directly to their mailbox.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Michelle: I remember visiting Atlantic Beach for family vacations in the summer – building sandcastles, hunting for crabs, and tiring myself out playing in the ocean.

Gabriel: I remember visiting McAdenville, NC (a.k.a. Christmas Town, USA) as a child. The only houses there were the older mill village houses, and the decorations always felt like a special kind of Christmas cheer.
