Today we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Ballack – Devoe.
Natasha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been drawn to the intersection between the human experience of space and design, storytelling, and structure — even before I had the language for it. Design has been a thread in my life since I was young, and it’s what eventually led me to co-found Design Edge Enterprise, a practice rooted in creativity, place-making, and thoughtful living
My journey in design spans over two decades, grounded in both architectural and interior design with hands-on experience across multiple industries and disciplinaries. I earned my degree in Architectural and Industrial Design in the early 2000s, and I’ve had the privilege of working with some big giants and luxury brands within the industry. My early career placed me inside powerhouse firms and high-profile projects, where I was fortunate to contribute to a wide range of project types — from luxury retail environments and corporate interiors to hospitality, industrial, and institutional spaces.
That diversity helped shape my design language and gave me a deep understanding of how spatial design impacts human behavior and emotion. Over the years, I’ve developed not just an eye for aesthetics, but a rigorous approach to technical detailing, functionality, and innovation — always considering the larger story a space tells.
When both my husband James Devoe and I founded Design Edge, it was a natural evolution — a way to channel our breadth of experience in architecture and construction into residential and lifestyle-forward design. We saw an opportunity to bring the same level of thoughtfulness, innovation, and creative discipline typically reserved for large-scale commercial projects into the homes and communities people live in every day.
Now, I’m focused on designing spaces that feel elevated, timeless, and emotionally connected. With each project, , I’m merging architectural depth with soulful living — helping clients not only see what’s possible, but feel it.
I’m proud to be working on projects that align with my values and that bring teams together around purpose-driven design. Every space we design is more than just walls — it’s a reflection of story, culture, and future.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road — but I wouldn’t trade the bumps for anything. The journey has been filled with lessons, reinvention, and resilience.
My path was anything but smooth, especially in the beginning. When I entered the architectural and design field over two decades ago, it was still very much a male-dominated industry. As a woman — and particularly as a woman of color — I often found myself navigating environments where I had to work twice as hard just to be seen and taken seriously. I had to constantly prove that I belonged in the room, that my ideas were valid, and that my vision had value.
There were moments of deep frustration, of feeling like I had to code-switch or shrink parts of myself just to move forward. But over time, those challenges became fuel. They helped me refine my voice, sharpen my skills, and most importantly, never give up on the kind of work I wanted to bring into the world.
Launching Design Edge brought a new set of challenges — this time as an entrepreneur. Building something from the ground up requires you to wear every hat: creative director, operations manager, marketer, and often your own support system. There were seasons where resources were limited, timelines were tight, or projects felt too ambitious — but the vision kept me going.
One of the biggest hurdles was carving out a niche that honors my diverse background in commercial architecture while shifting into residential innovation. Educating clients on the value of thoughtful, intentional design — and not just surface aesthetics — was something I had to grow into.
But those struggles shaped my voice, my process, and my why. They’ve given me a deeper empathy for others forging their own path, and a stronger belief that design isn’t just what we see — it’s what we experience, overcome, and evolve through.
One thing I’m incredibly grateful for today is seeing how much the landscape has shifted. More and more women are entering architecture and design — and they’re not just participating, they’re leading. It’s encouraging to witness a generation of women redefining what leadership and creativity look like in this field. I’m proud to be part of that ongoing shift, and I hope my journey opens doors for others coming behind me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

We’re most proud of building a studio that centers creativity, precision, and people. What sets us apart is the way we combine two decades of industry experience with a highly personal, boutique approach. We design for longevity, for meaning, and for impact — not just for today, but for the future a space can create.
We approach each project as an opportunity to tell a story — to reflect the lifestyle, values, and aspirations of the people who will live there. What makes our work stand out is the level of intentionality and innovation we bring to the process. From zoning and structure to materials and flow, I look at the full picture and craft designs that are elevated, thoughtful, and lasting.
What I’m most proud of is being able to bring a depth of industry experience — over 20 years — into work that still feels fresh, soulful, and human. I’ve seen the evolution of design trends, but I’ve also stayed rooted in the core belief that good design should move people. That’s the heart of what we do.
