Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Andrews
Hi Nicole, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was hesitant to get into Real Estate, if I’m being brutally honest. A licensed K-12 teacher, my background and passion has always been education and advocacy. After having children of my own, teaching online no-longer fit the needs of our growing family. I found myself longing for flexibility and stimulation.
My mother-in-law is a land developer and my husband is a licensed GC-it only made sense for me to get my Broker’s License and join the family business. At first, I was nervous to leave all that I had worked so hard to achieve behind. After all, the public opinion of Realtors remains consistently dismal. My husband, Jake, sensed my hesitancy and said the most simply profound words “Nicole, just be good. Get your license, become a Realtor, but be a good one.”
I became an unlicensed assistant at a Boutique firm, aced the exam on my first try, and have never looked back. My favorite part of my job is still education and advocacy, but in stead of teaching children, I teach adults how to prepare for the largest financial investment of their lives. AND I have the flexibility I longed for to support my husband in growing his business and to love on our sweet boys.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our market is ever-changing and skills like adaptability, hard work, dedication, and effective communication have been essential through this journey. Thankfully, those skills transferred well from my time as an educator. The road has not been a cake-walk, but I continually strive to provide the best possible service to my clients.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed Broker in the State of NC and a Realtor, brokered by Costello Real Estate & Investments in the Triangle. After brokerage hopping, I finally feel supported, challenged and “at home” with Costello.
As an agent, I work with both buyers and sellers in the Triangle and Sandhills regions. I have taken my husband’s words to heart and dedicate myself to being the best possible advocate I can be. This looks different for each and every client, which is something I think sets me apart from my contemporaries. Some clients need more education about the market, while others are active investors who just need a strong negotiator in their corner. I love that I can tailor my services and expertise to meet the need of every family and individual I have the pleasure of working with. The goal is always the best possible terms with the least amount of stress for my clients and I love that I get to do this everyday!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Mentorship in this industry often comes with a financial incentive, so it is incredibly important to recognize that not all mentors or brokerages are equally as qualified to support new agents. When interviewing brokerages, it is so crucial to know that YOU (the new agent) are actually the one interviewing the Broker in Charge, and not necessarily the other way around. New agents need to know how they best learn and need to have an honest look at what strengths and weaknesses they have in order to align themselves with a great mentor.
