Today we’d like to introduce you to Ralph Cole.
Hi Ralph, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey started in the barracks room when I was in the Army at my first duty station. I needed some extra money so I decided to start cutting my battle buddies being they needed hair cuts anyway. My clientele quickly grew and word started to get out about my gift so I decided, why not go to barber school and get my licenses so I can make more money on weekends cutting in a actual barbershop. That thought landed me at Olympia Barber School and the owner and instructor (Maria Ferns) had introduced me to the underground world and behind the scenes world of true barbering. We went on a trip to LA where we witnessed an amazing barber event where I was inspired that this is. It just about standing behind a chair. After my military career that came to an early end due to injury, I started my barber journey which landed me opportunities with brands that saw my talent and allowed me to showcase my knowledge and education of cutting and product knowledge on stage all over the country including Las Vegas, Puerto Rico, and many other cities! As the Ralph Cole the Barber brand grew, so did the names of my clientele. I landed opportunities to being the team barber for they NFLs Seattle Seahawks, along with the Legendary Triple AAA Durham Bulls Baseball Team. With the success in my barbering career, I added an addition to my resume by becoming an award winning Master Esthetician through Dermascope Magazine as well as nominations from the Black Spa awards as well. I now have transitioned to my hometown and have recently opened Ralph’s Barber Lounge located at 400 South water st suite 106 Elizabeth City, NC 27909. In addition to continuing my talents, I’m completing my undergraduate degree at Elizabeth City State University and moving on to pursue my Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
STRUGGLES, STRUGGLES, STRUGGLES! Definitely none of the success I have had has came with ease. I have faced homelessness, financial depletion, and I don’t want to even bring up anything about car problems!!! But through all of the trails and tribulations, I have always had faith in God and knew that no matter what my current situation was or is, I know that all I have to do is trust in him and he will provide all that I need. Even if things look like it may not work out I don’t know if I will even eat that day! He always makes a way…
