Hidden Gems: Meet Sandra Wester of Sand West Edit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Wester.

Hi Sandra, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had a love for words and the way they have the power to inspire, engage, and connect people. Growing up, I enjoyed reading books and writing poetry and song lyrics. Once an idea came to me, the words flowed effortlessly, and my thoughts came alive on the page. Over the years, I’ve worked in public relations, marketing, and copywriting, but it was while homeschooling my children that I discovered my gift for editing. Before long, family, friends, and colleagues began asking me to refine their writing projects, papers, and marketing materials.

In 2020, I took a leap of faith and started Sand West Edit, turning my editing experience into a full-fledged business. From the beginning, my goal has been to serve my clients with excellence and integrity, trusting God to bring the right opportunities my way.

Since then, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with a wide range of people—from authors and speakers to entrepreneurs and ministries. For me, editing is more than correcting words; it’s a calling to help writers express their ideas in a way that honors their voice and reflects their purpose.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a continual learning process, and I’ve had to embrace each new challenge as a chance to grow professionally. I’ve always been eager to support my clients, which often means stretching myself in new directions. For example, this past year I had the opportunity to edit my first science fiction novel, an exciting departure from my usual projects. Research and preparation are at the core of my work, and I take the time to ensure the final product is polished and ready for publication. Every assignment is unique, and I can’t help but feel giddy as everything falls into place. It’s like a work of art—when the final touches are added, it’s incredibly satisfying.

As you know, we’re big fans of Sand West Edit. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
As the editor behind Sand West Edit, I help authors, entrepreneurs, and organizations communicate their ideas clearly and effectively. I specialize in proofreading, copyediting, and line editing, tailoring each service to the specific needs of every assignment. From manuscripts and marketing materials to complex nonfiction works, my focus is always on preserving the writer’s voice while strengthening their message.

What sets me apart is the combination of precision, creativity, and attention to detail I bring to every collaboration. I go beyond grammar and punctuation, refining clarity, tone, and flow so that each piece resonates with its audience. Every project is a true partnership, guided by the writer’s vision.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that every writer has a unique voice, and understanding that voice is the key to effective editing. Each project requires listening, observing, and adjusting so that the final work reflects the author’s intention and personality. Honoring that individuality has taught me to approach each manuscript with care, patience, and curiosity—and it’s what makes the work so rewarding.
