Today we’d like to introduce you to September Higgs.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My Story
Yes, my name is Dr. September Higgs — a wife of 12 beautiful years, a proud mother of three amazing children, and the Executive Director & CEO of Queen Fix Your Crown Women’s Empowerment, Inc.
Before I ever imagined myself as a CEO or motivational speaker, I worked faithfully in the healthcare field for over 14 years, caring for dementia and Alzheimer’s patients. My heart was always for helping others whether it was through compassion, encouragement, or simply being present. But about four and a half years ago, my life took an unexpected turn when God called me away from my 9-to-5. I didn’t understand it at the time walking away from stability, from a career I had known so long but I knew I had to be obedient.
You see, I’m also a mother to a son who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, and that journey alone has taught me strength, faith, and resilience on a deeper level. There were seasons when I couldn’t keep a steady job because I constantly had to leave work to care for my son’s medical needs. I thought God was calling me home just to take care of him — but little did I know, He was calling me into purpose.
After leaving my job, I decided to go back to school and earn my certification in Interior Decorating, while also writing my first book. Three years ago, I officially launched that book — and that opened doors I never could have imagined. But even then, I still felt there was something greater that God wanted me to do.
That’s when the vision for Queen Fix Your Crown Women’s Empowerment, Inc. was birthed — a vision grounded in faith, healing, purpose, and restoration. God gave me a mission to empower women and youth to know their worth, walk boldly in their identity, and rise up to become everything He created them to be.
Today, I am a Certified Mentor, Certified Author, Entrepreneur, Speaker, and Visionary Leader. Through Queen Fix Your Crown, I have had the honor of mentoring young girls, encouraging women across the world, and creating programs that impact families, schools, and communities — from the Self-Care Pouch Movement Tour to the Mentee Crowning & Pinning Ceremony, and so many more.
Every event, every outreach, every mentorship session is a reflection of my heart — to let others know that no matter how broken, overlooked, or discouraged you may feel, you can rise again. You can fix your crown, walk in your calling, and fulfill your God-given purpose.
Because I’ve lived it.
I’ve walked through the tears, the waiting, the uncertainty — and I’ve seen God turn it into testimony, triumph, and transformation.
This is not just my organization.
This is my assignment.
This is Queen Fix Your Crown.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The Journey Hasn’t Been Easy
No, ma’am, it has not been a smooth road. It has been very difficult—especially financially. One thing I’ve learned about stepping out on faith to do what God has called you to do is that you must truly believe He will send the provision for the vision. There were moments when I would look at the vision God gave me, then look at my bank account and ask, “Lord, how am I going to accomplish this?” because the numbers didn’t match the vision. Yet even in those moments, I chose to trust Him. And when you decide to be obedient and walk in your purpose, you find that not everyone will walk with you. Some people will leave, some will talk about you, and some won’t understand your journey—but I’ve learned not to complain. Through every test, trial, and tear, I’ve seen God’s hand make a way, and for that, I give Him all the glory.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

What I want readers to know about Queen Fix Your Crown is that we are more than a name—we are a movement of purpose and healing. Whether through mentorship, outreach, or empowerment events, we aim to remind every woman and young person that their crown may tilt, but it will never fall when faith and perseverance
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Yes, I do view myself as a risk-taker because I am a child of God. When you step out on faith, you’re taking a risk — you’re walking in obedience even when you can’t see the full picture. One of the biggest risks I ever took was stepping away from my 9-to-5 job. That was the moment I told God, “I trust You more than I trust a paycheck.” I knew I wouldn’t have the same financial stability I once had, that regular check every two weeks, but I believed that obedience was greater than comfort. Every day is still a faith walk — especially on the days when sales are low or when no one is purchasing merchandise. But I’ve learned that faith requires risk, and that risk often becomes the seed for your biggest blessing. Stepping down from my job was one of my greatest risks, but it also became one of my greatest rewards.
