Hidden Gems: Meet Shailyn Ramsey of La Belle’ Beauty Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shailyn Ramsey.

Hi Shailyn, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I have always wanted to have my own business. I worked in the beauty industry for a few years and I loved it! I loved how people would feel once their service was complete. It helped people boost their confidence and how they felt overall. I wanted a place that would really tailor to the needs of people. Having a one-stop-shop started out as an idea that turned into reality.

Part of my family is from New Orleans and I wanted the business name to showcase my French/Creole roots. With the help of others, I ended up naming my business La Belle’ Beauty Bar which translates to The Beautiful Beauty Bar. I wanted to create a place that housed and promoted talented professionals working in the beauty industry. I also wanted to create a place where clientele could come to relax and leave feeling beautiful with a variety of services and products to choose from.

I would not have been able to get where I am today without God and the support of others! I went from creating a business plan to having a brick and mortar. When I have a goal that I want to achieve, I work really hard to make it happen. Once I committed my work to the Lord, he established my plans and opened doors that no man can shut. He made it possible for me! He made a way out of no way and I am so thankful that I have been able to live out my dream!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As an entrepreneur, you have to have faith like no other. Entrepreneurs take risks that most people would not be willing to do. As for me, I knew that taking a risk comes with the unknown. I knew things would either be smooth, bumpy, or both. I would say it has been both. Like any new business, it takes time to build it and I also learned a lot along the way.

I first established my business name when I was 24. The following year, I had to start looking for a building so business can begin to operate. Due to my age, majority of people did not take me seriously. I didn’t have prior financial history that proved I would be a reputable candidate as a tenant. I searched and searched and I got rejected so many times. That didn’t mean I was going to quit. I kept looking until I finally received a yes! My Landlord gave me the opportunity to be able to run my business at our current location in Apex. I am extremely thankful for the opportunity and now my beauty bar has been in full operation for almost four years.

Another struggle along the way happened years later. My brother passed away in February of 2024. That was one of the hardest things I had to endure. The reality is, I had a death in the family but my beauty bar still had to stay in operation. I still had to make sure the bills were getting paid and things were still getting done. I did not have the luxury to step away and truly grieve the loss of someone so close to me. Navigating my new reality was challenging but with the help of God, I was able to get through all of it.

Overall, it is a blessing to be able to have my own business. It is a blessing to be able to have a brick and mortar despite any setbacks or obstacles. I thank God for every opportunity presented and the position that I’m in today! I couldn’t have done it or made it through without God and those who have supported me.

We’ve been impressed with La Belle’ Beauty Bar, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
La Belle’ Beauty Bar is a one-stop-shop that offers a plethora of natural and sensitive skin care products and services. We offer full body waxing, facials, and brow + lash services. We also offer a variety of skin care products and home goods.

As for me, I am the owner and founder of La Belle’ Beauty Bar. I make sure the business is functioning as it should while having an amazing team of talented and professional service providers. As a one-stop-shop, its purpose is to offer a variety of services for the convenience of our clients. Often times, we may end up having to travel to many different places just to get all of our services done. I wanted to create a place that helped minimize the travel between places while offering quality services to our clients.

What makes us unique as a small business is that we highlight each professional’s strengths in the services that they provide. Each service provider comes with prior knowledge and experience in the service(s) they offer. La Belle’ Beauty Bar is a place where employees can have more independence in their craft and expertise. Because we are a small business, it provides more flexibility and exposure for everyone. It is very important to us that we are able to individually capture and showcase each employees personal work and talent because they all deserve that recognition.

I am truly pleased with how far we have come as a small business. I wanted to make sure it has the luxury boutique feel without the extensive luxury prices. I also wanted to create a place where people can come to relax and leave feeling beautiful! I am blessed to have this business and I look forward to continuing serving and helping people feel their best!
