Hidden Gems: Meet Sharon Cruz of Sharon Cruz Atelier LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharon Cruz.

Hi Sharon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Sharon Cruz. I was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. I studied Fashion Design at the Pontifical Catholic University. Since I was a child, I’ve been interested in fashion and art, such as painting, drawing, and working with colors and textures.

My interest in Fashion Design began when many 12th-grade students wanted their prom dresses but didn’t know how to explain to the seamstress what they wanted. So I started sketching my first designs for them. That’s when I knew I could have a future in Design.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
After finishing my Fashion degree, I moved to the capital, San Juan, where I completed my internships. There, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the industry. I also worked at BCBG Max Azria, a major store that helped refine my vision as a designer.

One of the challenges I faced in trying to stand out was motherhood. When you become a mother, you no longer have as much time. For many years, I dedicated myself entirely to my children. Returning to my career has taken sacrifice and has meant starting almost from scratch. My whole life was in Puerto Rico. When I moved in 2022, I had to start over again in a new community with styles very different from what I was used to creating.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Sharon Cruz Atelier is a fashion brand rooted in experience, artistry, and a deep love for design. I’ve been sewing since I was 18 years old,now 37, I bring nearly two decades of hands-on experience to every piece I create. My journey began in Puerto Rico, where I studied Fashion Design at the Pontifical Catholic University and discovered my gift for turning ideas into garments when I helped high school classmates bring their dream prom dresses to life.

At Sharon Cruz Atelier, I specialize in resort wear and statement pieces made with luxury fabrics like silk and unique, vibrant prints. Each design is handcrafted with care, precision, and purpose. Quality is never compromised my years of experience have sharpened my attention to detail and taught me to create clothing that fits beautifully, feels luxurious, and stands out.

What sets my brand apart is the blend of Caribbean inspiration, feminine strength, and refined craftsmanship. I don’t follow fast fashion. I create intentionally, in limited quantities, for women who want to express themselves with elegance and individuality.

After dedicating several years to raising my children, I restarted my fashion career in 2022 in a new community with a completely different aesthetic. That experience pushed me to evolve and adapt while staying true to my roots. I’m proud of the growth, the reinvention, and the authenticity behind each collection.

When people wear Sharon Cruz, they’re not just buying fashion—they’re wearing a story, a legacy of experience, and the spirit of a woman who has sewn her way through every chapter of life.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is living a life filled with purpose, love, and authenticity—and above all, being the best mother I can be to my sons.
They are my greatest motivation and the reason I push forward, even when things get hard. Every choice I make, especially in my career and creative journey, is guided by the desire to give them a better life and to show them that it’s never too late to follow your dreams.

Fashion has always been a part of me—it’s my way of expressing beauty, emotion, and identity. But at the core of it all, what matters is doing something meaningful that reflects who I am, while staying present and grounded in my role as a mother.

I’ve learned to balance motherhood and creativity, and while it hasn’t been easy, it has taught me strength, patience, and resilience. I want my sons to grow up knowing their mother didn’t give up—that she built something real, with her own hands and heart.

More than fame or recognition, I value peace, simplicity, and freedom—to create, to love, and to live with integrity. That’s what truly matters most to me.
