Hidden Gems: Meet Tracy Copeland of The Real Seal Notary Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Copeland.

Hi Tracy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always wanted to be a business owner whether it was starting out small and leading to a big ownership. This stemmed from realizing I did not want to be stuck working a job I had zero drive for.. Growing up both of my parents worked extremely hard for me and my brother to have a great life, but seeing them work so hard to provide for us has motivated me to break many generational stereotypes/curses and go into a business that is not only beneficial for myself and community but also something for my parents to be proud of and know that their hardwork encouraged me to work hard and build something to be proud of despite all the many things I went through to get to this point in life. Prior to the pandemic I had invested in a beauty line with a good friend of mine, but covid happened shortly after so we put that on hold for awhile. In between time I maintained my position working in aviation full-time and figured while I had the space to create my own schedule, going into business as a mobile notary was the perfect fit for me to put my foot in the door to being a small business owner again. With the uncertainty of everything going on in the world I took some time away from flying to focus on building my brand more and networking with many professionals that are looking for notary services on a day to day basis. So far since being in business I have gradually built up my education to being a notary and learning the ins and outs of being in a professional environment to work for myself. The results thus far have been more than rewarding not even for business but having something I can call my own no matter how many notaries may be in the market.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
From the beginning of taking my first notary course to building my clientele it was a bit challenging at first and although I am still learning something new everyday it has been so delightful to be able to push myself because this is something that I made a goal for myself to complete, so seeing it all flourish in real time has been amazing to see. The struggles I’ve faced Is really showing up for myself and business even on days/weeks that may be slow, but I know it takes time to really build the life you want so I’ve been taking the growing pains of owning a business as a learning experience every step of the way.

I carry my notary book with. me to every signing so if there is a question I am unsure of I can quickly look for the answer. I also keep an FAQ style folder with me for general questions or concerns my clients may run into so I can easily give the answer as needed. I tune into a series of other professional notaries who have been in business for many years before me. Not only do they motivate me with the day to day of running my business, but some of them also give a lot of useful advice on how to successfully run a business all while working full time in your job or career.
