Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Cowley.
Hi Victoria, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
In 2018 I had my first son, and I was over the moon! I began to shop around for clothes for my new little boy, but I was shocked to see that there was 1 shelf of boy’s clothes to every 4 shelves of girl clothes. There were little to no options available for him that weren’t covered in sharks, dinosaurs, or tractors. When I finally found something I liked, the price was outrageous! I decided that this was a great opportunity for me to help others find some stylish affordable options. By the time I opened my website, I had just given birth to my daughter, so I wanted my store to be gender-neutral with a focus on boys’ clothes since I had a hard time getting into dresses and glitter when it came to dressing my daughter. I now own Apex Kids LLC, and I strive to stock the store with affordable clothing from veteran, woman, and BIPOC owned businesses from all over the US. My goal is to open a storefront to better serve our community.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been anything but a smooth road! Marketing clothing without a store is definitely a challenge. I do my best to have my toddlers try on the clothing so I can describe if they run true-to-size or not for my customers. Also, keeping active on social media and making videos with 2 toddlers is more than a challenge!
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Apex Kids LLC?
I strive to stock my store with products from veteran, woman, and BIPOC owned businesses. Being a service-disabled woman veteran, I love what I do, and I get to have my kids and my very supportive husband with me through this journey. I am so proud of what the business has accomplished in supporting other small businesses instead of buying from larger wholesale companies. I believe small businesses should support one another instead of competing because we all have the same goal in the end. We offer affordable clothing for children sizes Newborn-YouthXL, with our majority stock being toddler sizes 2-5. I work completely from home, but all of our inventory can be found at www.apex-kids.com.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as having a job that not only supports your family but also one that you love and have a passion for.
