Today we’d like to introduce you to Alea Wetherington.
Alea, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After seven long, grueling years in the restaurant industry, working late nights, doubles and everything in between, I decided to pursue an education in esthetics in 2016. After becoming a licensed esthetician, I started my career as a waxer at a busy well-known wax chain, where I worked for over three years. I loved the job, the clients, the waxing, but was becoming bogged down by the constant pressure to sell, sell, sell! Metrics, sales quotas, and pushing memberships seemed to be more important than the quality and experience of the service. I had big dreams of opening my own wax business where I could be true to my authentic self and focus on my strengths which I recognize to be genuine connections with my clients and a passion for giving quality, luxury wax services.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I opened LeLe Wax Studio in February of 2020, about six weeks before the pandemic hit. I put everything I had into my dream, but it was a rocky start! Only a month and a half into my journey, my business was closed due to state regulations for over ten weeks. Even once the restrictions were lifting, I found it difficult to gain a clientele for a new business during the COVID pandemic.
This year, 2021 has been like a new beautiful beginning. My clientele has been growing and growing, I’m busier than ever and so excited to be living my dream. In many ways, I’m grateful that my start wasn’t the easiest because it’s made my successes that much sweeter.
As you know, we’re big fans of LeLe Wax Studio. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a full-body waxer specializing in brows and Brazilian services. About 70% of my schedule is made up of those two services in particular. I’m passionate about giving women a more pleasant and efficient Brazilian waxing experience. Waxing can be intimidating or anxiety-inducing for some, especially first-time clients. I’m most proud of my ability to make my clients feel welcomed, comfortable, and at ease when they are in my studio.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
My favorite thing about our city is the unique small business- other beauty professionals, coffee shops, thrift stores, breweries, we’ve got it all!
The least favorite thing is the traffic, although it’s not that bad, especially with so many working from home recently.
