Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Yadav.
Hi Ana, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Sure. I am originally from India. Growing up in India, I remember wearing cotton clothes throughout the year.
When I moved to the US, I found it really hard to find quality cotton clothing. I found that even clothing marketed as cotton would often contain only a percentage of cotton blended with other sometimes synthetic fabrics. As a cotton lover, I was really disappointed by the limited options available for affordable, sustainable 100% cotton sleepwear and casual wear. I was also concerned about the environmental impact and labor practices associated with traditional textile production.
Determined to make a positive difference, I embarked on a mission to create a brand that offers ethically produced organic cotton sleepwear, and hence Zillajee was born.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I love running a small business, but it is also challenging. I’m always thinking about how I can take my business to the next level and how I can get there as soon as possible. I have to constantly keep reminding myself that building a successful business takes time and patience.
Every day is a new challenge, a new opportunity, and one has to constantly keep evolving.
As you know, we’re big fans of Zillajee. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
Zillajee is a sustainable sleepwear brand. Our pajama pants are made with 100% organic cotton using natural dyes. We are committed to ethical production and fair labor practices.
We have tried to design the brand around our customers’ specific needs. For example, our pajama pants come with big pockets for convenience and an adjustable waistband for a custom fit.
Our summer collection features a range of prints from vibrant to soothing, floral to stripes, and is currently available on Etsy.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If you think about solving all the problems and then starting, you will probably never start. It’s important to just take the first step and figure out things along the way.
You will learn something new every day, and you will surprise yourself every time you solve a problem.
Remember to enjoy the ride.
