Today we’d like to introduce you to Aniya Powell.
Hi Aniya, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Lachezbeautybar began as a childhood passion long before it became a business. I started doing nails at just 9 years old, not knowing it would grow into something much bigger. As I got older, especially during high school and into college, I began to truly pour into the beauty industry—learning, practicing, and understanding that this was more than a hobby, it was a calling.
I became a licensed cosmetologist in 2023 and officially established Lachezbeautybar, LLC in 2025. What started with nails has grown into a brand built on professionalism, education, and client care. I specialize in nail services with a strong focus on nail health, while continuing to expand into natural hair services.
Today, Lachezbeautybar represents purpose, resilience, and elevation. As a Black-owned beauty business, my vision is to grow into a full-service beauty space that not only provides quality services, but also creates opportunities for learning, collaboration, and community. Every step of this journey has shaped the foundation I’m building—one rooted in passion, legacy, and long-term impact.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, the journey has not been a smooth road. While balancing college and building my business, I also faced significant personal loss and responsibility. I lost my mother to cancer, a life-altering experience that happened while I was still trying to show up for my goals and my clients. During that same period, my grandfather was recovering from surgery while also battling cancer, which added another layer of emotional and mental strain during an already difficult time.
Navigating grief while continuing to build Lachezbeautybar required strength, faith, and perseverance. There were moments when simply showing up felt like an accomplishment. At the same time, I was rebuilding my clientele after returning home from college, re-establishing my presence, and regaining momentum in my hometown.
Those challenges reshaped my perspective and deepened my purpose. They taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of community and consistency. Rather than stopping my journey, these experiences became part of the foundation of Lachezbeautybar—a brand built on strength, compassion, and long-term vision.
As you know, we’re big fans of LachezBeautybar, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
LachezBeautybar, LLC is a Black-owned, independently operated nail brand founded and run solely by a licensed cosmetologist. The business specializes exclusively in nail services, with a strong emphasis on nail health, proper technique, and long-term care.
LachezBeautybar is known for clean, structured work, intentional service, and client education. Every appointment is designed to prioritize the health of the natural nail while still delivering high-quality, customized results. Clients are educated on maintenance, growth, and aftercare, setting the brand apart from trend-focused or rushed services.
What truly sets LachezBeautybar apart is the one-on-one experience. As the sole owner and operator, I personally handle every service, consultation, and client interaction. This allows for consistency, trust, and a personalized experience that reflects professionalism and care at every level.
Brand-wise, I am most proud of building LachezBeautybar independently while navigating college, rebuilding clientele after returning home, and overcoming personal loss. The brand represents resilience, discipline, and purpose.
While LachezBeautybar remains nail-focused, I also operate a separate extended platform dedicated specifically to hair services, allowing each area of my work to grow with clarity and intention.
I want readers to know that LachezBeautybar, LLC is more than a nail business—it is a purpose-driven brand rooted in education, integrity, and long-term vision, with the goal of setting a higher standard within the nail industry.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is purpose and progress. Knowing that I’m building something meaningful with my hands and my heart brings me fulfillment. Creating a safe, welcoming space where clients feel confident, cared for, and educated about their nail health is deeply rewarding.
I’m happiest when I can see growth—whether that’s a client trusting the process, my skills improving, or my business moving forward one step at a time. Building LachezBeautybar independently, especially after personal loss and major life transitions, has shown me that joy doesn’t always come from ease, but from perseverance and intention.
Ultimately, what makes me happy is honoring my journey and legacy by turning passion into purpose and using my work to uplift others.
