Inspiring Conversations with Aspinder Singh of Amelia Aesthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aspinder Singh

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born in northern India and my family moved to America when I was 4. My father and mother are both small businesses owners in Cleveland, Ohio, neither of them went to college. As the only child in a working class family I was expected from an early age to contribute and be self sufficient. I initially was interested in pursing a life in business, however began to be drawn towards biology and science as my education progressed. I got the opportunity to attend a medical camp during my sophomore year in high school aimed at exposing teens to a life in medicine and I was instantly hooked. I loved being able to apply biology and being an extrovert, make connections with people. I decided then that I would pursue a career in medicine. I attended The Ohio State University for undergraduate, getting two degrees in biology and economics. From there I spent one year in a research laboratory at the Cleveland Clinic where my work concluded in a patented clinical product, before returning to OSU for my medical school and business graduate degrees. I was fortunate to be a part of the combined MD/MBA program, allowing me to continue forward on both paths. It was during my medical school rotations that I realized how much I loved surgery. It was the perfect mix of results-oriented hands-on work and patient-focused relationships.

After my time in Columbus, I moved to Houston, Texas, and completed my general surgery residency at the world’s largest medical center, TMC. While there I spent time working alongside plastic surgeons at Texas Children’s Hospital repairing cleft lips and palates, doing complex tissue repairs after cancer surgery at MD Anderson, and being a part of the trauma surgery team at a level one trauma center, Ben Taub Hospital. After completing my general surgery residency, I pursued additional training in plastic surgery and completed my fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, ranked the #1 plastic surgery training program in the US.

I now am a part of Amelia Aesthetics, where I work to offer my patients all facets of cosmetic surgery including breast and body surgery with a focus on facial rejuvenation including facelifts and rhinoplasty.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My journey has been marked with paving my own path with limited guidance. As mentioned before, neither of my parents attended college and had very limited knowledge of the US education system. Finding opportunities to expand my exposure and learn new skills became a routine for me. I studied abroad in Spain, did medical mission work in Honduras, volunteered with the underserved community in Columbus, OH, and worked in restaurants throughout college. All of this was all aimed at broadening my horizons and making me a more well rounded individual. I took what I learned and was able to give back, serving on the advisory board of College Mentors for Kids, as well as being on the admissions committee for medical school and both surgical training programs. Being able to teach others how to take what they have and maximize their potential without having to reinvent the wheel has been a very fulfilling part of the journey.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our mission at Amelia Aesthetics is to make plastic surgery less intimidating, more transparent, and centered around the patient experience. Our slogan is “Plastic surgery with empathy and ease” and we really live it. We are committed to our patients feeling secure and well educated, everything including pricing is transparent and listed on our website. We also have a large Facebook community of over 80,000 women called Bustmob who have either gone through surgery or are interested in it where they can have open, honest communication with each other and the surgeons. It is a group focused on bringing out the best in each other!

Amelia has been offering expert level breast and body plastic surgery to the community for over a decade. I am bringing a new set of offerings to the practice centered around facial rejuvenation including facelifts, scarless blepharoplasty, and neck lifts. In addition to facial rejuvenation I have a particular passion for rhinoplasty including revision rhinoplasty, something that has been missing in the Triangle Area. My background of being trained at the #1 plastic surgery program in the US and being directly tutored by two past presidents of the American Society of Plastic Surgery and two past presidents of the Rhinoplasty Society, allows me to offer a unique and personalized approach to facial surgery. I believe in making people look naturally youthful without an overly pulled or overly filled look seen in certain parts of the country. My personal take is that I want to keep you looking in your 40s for three decades! I love my practice because it is a fun mix of all things breast, body, and face.

What’s next?
My wife and I are excited to continue to grow into the Raleigh community. We have a 5 month old boy who lights up our world. We are excited to see him grow and one day add another child to our family. My wife, Raman Kaur, is an internal medicine physician who will be working as a hospitalist in the area. We are both so happy to be here and look forward to what the future has in store for our family!
