Inspiring Conversations with Carly Brango of Funguys Brewing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Brango

Hi Carly, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Funguys Brewing was started by husband and wife duo, Nick and Carly Brango. They met at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where Nick grew his passion for craft beer. He started home brewing, and then pursued the brewing path by attending the American Brewer’s Guild. Upon graduating, Nick along with Carly began the journey to open Funguys Brewing in Raleigh.

For almost 7 years now, Funguys has been a mom and pop brewery, ran by the owners/brewers themselves. They have been serving up flavor forward ales and lagers, specializing in Hazy IPAs, Smoothie Sours, and more!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Covid was one of the biggest hurdles. We had to adapt and change plans from draft and to-go sales to only to-go for several months. Luckily, people still wanted to drink beer but there was a shift in production and sales trying to maintain business as usual.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Funguys is a Microbrewery.
We make a wide variety of beer styles, recently introducing lagers, German, Belgian, and more traditional beer styles to our offerings.
IPAs are always a hit, especially our Hazy IPAs. We have focused on providing more bitter IPAs recently, including some West Coast and American IPAs.
The most unique beers we make would be our Smoothie Sours, Cool-Ade Hard Seltzers, and our “Shake” series.
There’s just about always a beer style for everyone- both classic and fun!

What’s next?
Each year we try to expand distribution to new markets who may not have heard of Funguys or tried our beers.
We like to attend beer festivals near and far to raise Funguys brand awareness nationally, but also make friends from across the country.
