Inspiring Conversations with Charlene Gerogosian of Smooth Reflections Skincare

Today we’d like to introduce you to Charlene Gerogosian.

Hi Charlene, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers. So exactly who is Charlene Gerogosian LE?
Skincare Junkie Turned Licensed Esthetician. I’ve always been passionate about skincare, beauty and making people feel their best! I embarked on my professional esthetics journey to help others with their challenging skin health issues and understand my own skincare troubles. I became a self-professed “skincare junkie,” diving headfirst into everything esthetics before finding myself profoundly and permanently embedded in professional, licensed esthetics. I officially began my career thirteen years ago while attending cosmetology school, thinking I wanted to focus my attention mainly on the science of hair care hairdressing. However,18 months into the program, I realized my passion was the science of skincare. A year later, I was enrolled in a program specializing in esthetics so I could really hone my craft. I worked for another spa straight out of school for two years until I took a chance and started my second passion, running my own business Smooth Reflections Skincare LLC. Some people find out what they love by accident.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The last nine years have not been a smooth road. I had a handful of people eager to follow me from the spa I was working at. But Smooth Reflections Skincare is truly a business started from the ground up. I went all in! I quit a good-paying job as an esthetician working for a spa to go into debt to start the business, and it took about two years before I saw any profit. I was determined and driven! I learned so much along the way and made just as many mistakes. By year six, the business was running smoothly, and I was on top of the world. Then the pandemic hit in March 2000, and we all know how that turned out. For the first time, I was forced to close my doors with the uncertainty of not knowing if they would ever open again. It was a very humbling experience for me. Luckily I’m a planner and quickly made a plan to figure out how I would keep the business from going under. I arranged at-home facials for kids and sold gift certificates to clients to use once we did open our doors. Finally, after three months of being closed we were able to open once again. Of course, business was not business as usual. It was a slow trickle of clients coming in for two years just trying to get business back to what it once was. I stand here today very proud of where I started and what I overcame.

As you know, we’re big fans of Smooth Reflections Skincare. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
I love making people feel and look their best. I love researching and learning new skincare treatments. What sets me apart from others is that I provide a scientific approach to skincare and deliver it in a very therapeutic, relaxing way. My clients jokingly say I have magic hands, and I take that as a huge compliment. You shouldn’t have to choose between a results-driven treatment and a relaxing one. I take great care and in providing relaxing, science-driven results in each treatment. I’m proud of the skin care lines I use and offer to my clients. I take the time to research them thoroughly and test them on myself to ensure they are the best possible options for my clients. I jokingly say it’s a hard job, but somebody has to do it. As a self-proclaimed skincare junkie this is one of the best parts of the job. As I continue to grow year after year, I can invest in more products and high-end machines to deliver the results my clients want. I also offer waxing, tinting, and lash lifts. But I have to say my true passion is skincare, so I love offering many different skincare treatments. My newest treatment I’m really excited about is Procell micro-channeling, which is a more efficient form of microneedeling. I love being able to remove years from a person’s appearance or provide much-needed relief for someone who has suffered acne scars for many years. I am excited about this treatment because it will be a game-changer for many of my clients.

Any big plans?
Right now, I’m a solo aesthetician, so that I can provide very personalized service to each client. I want to expand in about five years as I grow to include one or two additional aestheticians. I dream of having a small wellness center where you can relax and get the self-care you need. Imagine spending the day in a beautiful, relaxed setting where you can get all the self-care attention that you need. I love being a place people look forward to visiting and always leave happier than when they arrived.
