Inspiring Conversations with Chloe Clark of Simply Sage Dog Treats

Hi Chloe, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The story behind Simply Sage Dog Treats originates from my adoption of a rescue puppy named Sage, who became my source of inspiration. After a few months, we discovered that Sage had digestive issues, including gas, runny stool, and even blood in her stool. It felt like we were constantly visiting the vet, with appointments scheduled every few weeks. 

Driven by the desire to help Sage, I delved into researching different herbal teas and their potential health benefits for dogs. Additionally, I started scrutinizing the labels on the pet treats I purchased for Sage. While I had been conscious of the ingredients in my food, I had never given a second thought to what was in my puppy’s food. Much like many human foods, the pet treats were filled with preservatives, additives, and other undesirable ingredients. These were the root cause of Sage’s sensitivity, as her delicate tummy couldn’t properly digest such treats. 

In 2016, I founded Simply Sage Dog Treats, initially offering plant-based dog treats infused with herbal teas. As time went on, I realized there was a significant demand in the market for all-natural grooming supplies to cater to pet skin care needs. This realization led to a rebranding of my business and a revamp of our product line. Two years later, I expanded further by developing a range of pet wellness products specifically tailored for dogs with allergies and skin issues. 

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
One of the biggest challenges I faced with my business was discovering effective methods beyond social media to expand and gain exposure. It’s common for business owners to receive advice emphasizing the importance of running social media ads and consistent posting. However, this approach doesn’t always yield the desired results. As a small, relatively unknown brand, I didn’t have media outlets lining up to interview me or promote my brand. Despite trying various social media strategies, I couldn’t see any significant outcomes. This led me to explore alternative avenues for reaching customers and generating consistent sales. 

To my surprise, I found numerous channels that small businesses can leverage outside the realm of social media to connect with customers and drive sales. 

The next crucial step involved identifying these channels, which required a considerable amount of trial and error. However, through persistence and determination, I managed to navigate this process and find effective approaches.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Gwinnett has some of the most remarkable parks in the area. As a family, we have made it a regular practice to explore the various dog parks, nature trails, and even the charming historic town shopping areas. These outings have become an essential part of our routine as we prioritize spending quality time outdoors with our beloved furbaby, Sage. Rain or shine, we are committed to venturing out daily and making the most of our beautiful surroundings.
