Christina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Christina Newman Grice. The Owner of Turquoise Tea Spa & Beauty Bar, I’m the Founder and Senior Executive Director of The Alesia Thomas Foundation Inc. I initially began this dream with my mom Alesia Thomas, by providing Holistic Health through Turquoise Tea by providing services to help people feel their very best through Massage Therapy, Skin Care, Nail Care, hair care. My mom then was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and I became her caregiver, and it put our business on hold. My mom passed from an aggressive cancer that moved from her breast to her Lungs in September 2011. I knew then, I had to continue to push our business forward in her legacy. As I pushed forward my vision of Turquoise Tea began to change. I wanted to provide a more holistic approach to Turquoise Tea. I wanted to provide wellness on a cellular level. I began to formulate wellness products such as Body Butters, Sugar Scrubs, bath Teas, Body oils, to assist with Skincare. I formulated a Natural and Organic Hair Serum. I also developed my own loose leaf Teas with locally grown herbs.
The Alesia Thomas Foundation Inc provides individuals going through traumatic events leading to hair loss, such as Cancer, alopecia, trachtillomania, depression, Lyme disease, etc. Our goal is to provide each and everyone of our clients human hair wigs, turbans, scarves, holistic alternatives, resources, etc to assist in their healing journey no cost to them. With doing so we provide city wide events to help us fundraise to provide support while they are at the beginning of their journey, during their journey, and after. We are the Awareness!

I initially began this journey with my mother, Alesia Thomas, offering holistic health and wellness services—including massage therapy, skincare, nail care, and hair care—to help people feel their very best. However, our business was placed on hold when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and I became her caregiver. Sadly, she passed away in September 2011 after the cancer aggressively spread to her lungs.
Determined to honor her legacy, I continued to push our business forward. Over time, my vision evolved toward a more cellular level of wellness. I began formulating natural and organic skincare and hair products—such as body butters, sugar scrubs, bath teas, body oils, and a specialized hair serum—alongside my own loose-leaf teas made with locally grown herbs.
Through The Alesia Thomas Foundation Inc., we support individuals experiencing traumatic events that lead to hair loss, including cancer, alopecia, stress, trichotillomania, depression, Lyme disease, etc. Our goal is to provide human hair wigs, turbans, scarves, holistic alternatives, and resources to assist in their healing journey at absolutely no cost to them. To fund these efforts, we host city-wide fundraising events to support our clients before, during, and after their journeys. We are the awareness!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When opening Turquoise Tea in a brick in Mortar , the journey was definitely rough. There were a lot of hurdles, such as building inspections, having to get floor plans, water system failing, then to top it off the owner of the building let it go into foreclosure without advising the tenants.
