Today we’d like to introduce you to Dom And Bianca Harris
Hi Dom and Bianca, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We are a North Carolina-based, Black-owned business dedicated to curating unique fragrances that’ll enhance your space.
I’m Dom Harris, the founder of Glow. fragrances. Originally launched in 2021 as Luna Luxe Custom Candles, I took time to refine my vision and I was excited to relaunch in 2024 with my sister, Bianca Harris, as my partner and curator of our men’s collection.
My journey began with a desire for more control over the candle experience—often wanting a specific fragrance but not finding a matching vessel and vice versa. This is one of the reasons I’ve been inspired to start a candle business that focuses on both quality and customization.
Bianca Harris became involved in the men’s fashion industry during her 3 years that she worked at the Nordstrom Men’s NYC Flagship since its opening in 2018. It was a great learning experience for her and notably it further developed her interests in men’s fragrances. It was an eye opening experience that broadened her understanding of fine fragrances and what makes a great scent profile.
What began as a hobby quickly gained traction, with customers eagerly seeking more. we are thrilled to provide an experience that transforms your space and elevates your senses. Let’s illuminate your world together!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey of entrepreneurship has been relatively smooth with only a few bumps along the way—though, of course, such challenges are to be expected. It becomes much more manageable when you maintain an optimistic mindset and understand that success often requires hard work, a willingness to get your hands dirty, and a flexible, open approach. Embracing mistakes as learning opportunities is key, and it’s important to give yourself permission to take a step back and reset when necessary.
One of the biggest hurdles is securing financial support. As such, our current strategy is to start small, gain traction, and build exposure. Once we’ve established a foundation, we’ll focus on identifying the grants and loans that align with our needs, which will be our next step toward growth.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Glow.Fragrances is a proud Black-owned candle business where we not only prioritize exceptional quality, but also offer the unique opportunity to customize your candles to suit your personal style.
Since our relaunch, we’ve received consistent feedback for the aesthetics, strength of aroma with our high premium coconut wax, and long-lasting burn of our candles. In the candle-making world, these are the highest compliments we could ask for. Crafting candles is a lot like baking—while cooking allows for more flexibility, baking demands precision. Similarly, creating the perfect candle requires a careful balance of measurements and attention to detail to achieve just the right formula.
According to our customers, they keep coming back because they love how strong the fragrance is and how it fills their space with lasting aroma. They also appreciate the slow burn, which allows our candles to last much longer than those from big-box stores, all while enjoying the added touch of a crackling wood wicks which are not commonly used, but are natural that allows a clean burn.
What I’m most proud of is how our brand is both simple yet beautifully complex. The feedback we receive from our customers is a true reflection of our core goal: to have them return again and again knowing they will get quality every time .
What we’d love our readers to know is that, in addition to our curated collections, they can create their own custom candle fragrance and even personalize it with a name.
Further more, looking ahead to 2025, we’re excited to launch our website in the summer and host fun, interactive events where guests can experience candle-making with friends, family, or even as a unique date night. Customers will also have the opportunity to sign up for exclusive offers and early access to new fragrances. Plus, we’re offering consultations for businesses who’d like to feature our candles as centerpieces or part of their decor.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
During the time I was working by myself and then also having Bianca be apart, we really relied on our close family and friends for feedback. It felt as if it was our little community where not only we would get support but also receive precise feedback on how we could make our brand better.
Listening to what they’ve mentioned, one of the things that what worked well for us was keeping in mind about our marketing and brand as a whole. Making sure all age groups can feel a connection to want to buy our candles. The little things carry more weight than you would expect.
As far as networking. Content creating and attending either events to vendor or accepting offers to be an exclusive vendor and having our candles as centerpiece have been a positive outcome to add to our success.
