Inspiring Conversations with Elizabeth Powell of Bee the Light Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Powell.  

Hi Elizabeth, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in NC. I always struggled with being overweight and stressed out. I was the overweight kid in class. As I got older, I decided to start working out to help me feel better. I found Zumba and starting going regularly. I loved it so much that I decided to start teaching it. Slowly over time, I grew my business. I have taught Zumba for 12 years. Then after 10 years of teaching classes Covid hit. People had to stay at home, and they were looking for something to do. I started teaching online to continue my business, and it worked. I went from 1 class a week to 3. Also, during Covid, I decided to learn how to teach yoga. So I learned from a local yoga teacher Bonnie Bradford at Everyone Yoga. I earned my certificate, and I have been teaching yoga for 3 years. Six months after becoming a Yoga instructor, I learned Reiki from Reiki Master Carrie Jeroslow. Reiki is a Japanese relaxation technique that promotes the body’s natural healing process. I really wanted my business to be diverse in offerings to help people feel better about themselves. I had always been interested in energy healing work. Reiki has been one of the most rewarding things I have ever learned. Now I am a Karuna®Holy Fire ® Reiki Master and Teacher. I have a thriving Reiki healing business here in Hickory offering Reiki to clients in person and online. Reiki and teaching fitness classes has allowed me to help lots of people on their physical and spiritual journeys to well-being and happiness. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a slow road. Teaching Zumba only for 10 years and having classes die out, and then having to find new places to try and grow it was a challenge, but I stuck with it, and now I have found my groove with it. Especially after COVID my business grew exponentially. I have had a lot of doubters, especially with Reiki. Understandably Reiki can challenge other people’s ideas of what is acceptable, but for those that are open to it and giving new things a try they really benefit from it. For every doubter that I had, I had 2 more people that were excited about it, and they come monthly to experience the benefits of it. As my business has grown, I have encountered people who have tried to manipulate and use our business arrangements as a means to take business and profit away from me. Luckily, I recognized that and set boundaries, and ended those arrangements to maintain everything I had worked hard for. 

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Bee the Light Wellness focuses on the betterment of people from the inside out. I offer Reiki Energy Healings, crystal and sound healing, guided meditations, and intuitive spiritual coaching. I offer a variety of fitness classes as well as Reiki training classes and mentoring. Other things I offer are past life regressions, Oracle readings, and handmade gemstone Mala/Prayer jewelry. 

What sets me apart is that I offer the intuitive meditative spiritual coaching with my Reiki, and I am currently developing my own style of Reiki called Divine Feminine ® Reiki. 

The main quest of my business is to help people feel liberated and happy. I know what it’s like to not like my inner world. Through Reiki and fitness, I want help people change their inner world from one they are unhappy to be into one they are joyous to be in. It really helps the person overall, connecting them to their mind, body, and spirit.

I actually love to do public speaking to motivate and educate others about energy-healing topics. I’m very creative, and I am currently in the process of creating my own style of Reiki, called Divine Feminine ®Reiki, so I can begin to teach it others.
