Inspiring Conversations with Erika Dunnon of One Health Literacy Organization

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Dunnon.

Hi Erika , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
One Health Literacy Organization (OHLO) was created out of a recognized need for help with navigating health including healthcare. It was started and became a 501c3 around December 2020. The business has since hosted virtual events and published health education related content on the internet. The idea is to help community members understand pertinent public health concepts as it relates to their personal health journey. We are a member of the North Carolina Center for Nonprofits.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a struggle to promote the awareness of the business and to help people understand we provide health education and health coaching. I believe, if more community members understood the the benefits of utilizing the services available the nonprofit would grow exponentially.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We offer health education and health coaching services to the triangle community. We are a minority owned business which sets us at an advantage to identify and assist other members of the community who have similar experiences. We for example have the Pink Ribbon Health Coaching program designed to help women who have a breast cancer diagnosis and would love to come alongside them within their journey!

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I am an avid reader and there have been books which I have read from the author Amy Hill Hearth, Strong Medicine Speaks and Having Our Say. I like books which are inspirational and give insight into the lives of extremely interesting people. While these books are not focused keenly on work, they are books read for leisure and they spill over into work because of principles which are mentioned.
