Inspiring Conversations with Esha Herbert-Davis of Events by Ashe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Esha Herbert-Davis

Hi Esha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Canada with parents from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. I’m currently living in NC with my husband and son. I have an extensive professional background in Human Resources and event planning, as well as being an international best-selling author! After dimming my light for several unsuccessful relationships, I met her husband at Trinidad Carnival in 2006. After a devastating loss in 2015, I went full time in my multiple 6-figure business, Events by Ashé, where we plan Caribbean Carnival experiences. I Started the Carnivalista Lifestyle brand in 2017 with my book of the same name, dedicated to black women being their true, authentic selves through amazing travel !

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were many struggles along the way! I am a thriver from sexual abuse as a child and was raised by a single mom. I also had a stillborn little girl in 2014, which pushed me to change several things in life, including my career path at the time. One of the things that my mom and aunties taught me was resilience. Without this, my life would have turned out very differently. With every obstacle though, I’ve been able to create a plan, a system and engage the support I need to overcome anything.

As you know, we’re big fans of Events by Ashe . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My brand is called Carnivalista Lifestyle and it’s all about black women being their true, authentic selves. I have a book of the same name so be sure to check it out here: https://www.amazon.com/Carnivalista-Lifestyle-Self-Development-Professionals-Entrepreneurs/dp/1949513068. Having worn several masks throughout my life, I work with women to remove their masks and give them a safe space to do this with the right support. I’m known to be a great planner, having this experience for over 2 decades. I’m proud of being a woman who has overcome many obstacles to build a thriving business and a loving support system of fram-a-lay (friends and family) around me. Incorporating this into my brand to show other women that this is possible for them too, makes me very proud. I’m currently working on the HabitShift365 mentoring program and it is set to be launched in June! This intensive program will show women how to overcome anything with a plan, a system and the right support.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Just start. If your goal is to become a full-time entrepreneur, start part time to get your first paying clients until your business can replace your full-time income. When I was starting out, I wished that I knew or took into consideration all of the other things you have to do in your business as a solopreneur e.g. accounting, payroll, etc. I also wished that I understood the importance of building a team. I would have done that a lot sooner in her business; definitely as soon as I hit 6-figures in revenue. The reason why I started building a team so late, is due to my beliefs in perfectionism and that I had to do everything herself. I’ve slowly gotten rid of these beliefs and built a fantastic team around myself who assists me with running the business.
